Is it True, Is Canggu the New Seminyak?
Bali has been through many changes over the last 2 years. None are more visible then what’s been happening in Canggu. From villas to boutiques, restaurants, spas and 5-star hotels opening up, Seminyak has started to expand further north.
For years Seminyak was the hot spot, the cool and vibrant beach location area in Bali where everyone wanted to stay. Did you know it’s ranked in the top 5 ‘most expensive’ cities in the world? So with accommodation rates going through the roof in Seminyak holiday makers are looking for other options further north yet still close to the beach.
The first areas that became popular and you probably haven’t heard of is Petitenget which is actually where the famous Potato Head beach bar is located and Batubelig right around the corner home to the famous Naughtly Nuri’s Restaurant. Both are great areas if you want an affordable holiday without the Seminyak price tag.
Villas Are Almost Half the Price
The Canggu area, which has been popular with the Bali expats for years suddenly, took off and land prices started to increase. Canggu villas were being built at a rapid pace and cool internationally owned and operated restaurants started to pop up everywhere.
Villas in Canggu are still so much cheaper even with the land rates increasing. A five bedroom villa in Canggu will start from USD $500 per night compared to USD $1,000 per night in Seminyak. So you can see for families or large groups why heading out further makes sense.
Splash Waterpark has Just Opened
Now Canggu has just opened a waterpark known as Splash to rival the well-known Waterbom in Kuta. It’s open daily from 9am to 7pm and entry is very affordable at only IDR 120,000 (around $12) for kids 3 – 17 years and IDR 240,000 ($22) for adults.
This is for all day use and includes: entrance to Splash & Canggu Club East with access to the Fitness centre, swimming pool, sports ground, club house sports bar, tennis centre, body temple spa and F&B café and restaurants.
Is this just the beginning of massive development through and is Canggu heading in the wrong direction?

Still not sure where Canggu is? Located a few miles to the north of Seminyak, Canggu is a picturesque location around 25 minutes drive from Seminyak. Emerald green rice terraces greet you when you drive through the villages in Canggu, taking you back to a time when the pace of life was unhurried and relaxed.
