There are a few places that remind me of home, and one of them is the gorgeous Villa Champak in Koh Samui. The property sits in the Miskawaan complex that boasts 11 other equally stunning villas, ranging from 4, 5 and 6 bedroom villas.

During the Singapore school holidays, my father would sometimes organise a family chalet gathering in Singapore somewhere in Changi with my immediate family (it was a large group!). Being a little kid, I found it such joy getting up every day and running up and down, shuttling between the beach before bomb-diving into the pool. Villa Champak brought back those memories – this spacious, five-bedroom villa has 25sqm of beach frontage with ample space for kids to run around and move easily between pool, garden and beach.

Villa Champak is wonderfully made for families. The bedrooms are extremely large and can accommodate extra beds if need be. All the rooms come with double beds except for one that comes as a triple sharing room – so perfect for kids wanting their own space, or if you have a helper who can assist with watching over the kids.

Villa Champak Staff

I fell in love with Villa Champak’s outdoors. There is an outdoor sala with comfortable rattan sofas that look out to the nearby island of Koh Phangan. Each morning I found it so calming to sit there to have my breakfast. If you so wish, the staff can assist with moving the furniture, creating a space fit for yoga sun salutations first thing in the morning.

Speaking of breakfasts – wait till we tell you what gluttons we were at Villa Champak! The head chef spoilt us silly. We had amazing breakfasts each morning with an assortment of bread, fruit, eggs, sausages, bacon and ham. I always looked forward to dinner. On the first night she whipped up her speciality, which included tamarind prawns – so fresh, and so tender, once I popped I could not stop! Her creamy Thai chicken soup was also a favourite. The second night she organised a barbeque session for all of us – the boys loved the steak, and I of course, the seafood. If you’re travelling with family or a group of friends, this barbeque comes highly recommended.

Meanwhile, fret not – children (or even adults) will be duly entertained. Miskawaan properties are the first in Koh Samui to have installed Netflix to their television sets. While I’d very much recommend staying in and catching up on Game of Thrones, you should enjoy the beauty of the outside once in a while!
