Naithon Overview

Nestled at the foot of the steep hill, Naithon is one of the most elegant and naturally beautiful areas of Phuket island. For some reason, it has been overlooked by large hotel resort developers, when other Phuket beachfront retreats were vigorously building up. Even though developers make up for lost now, Naithon still remains rather peaceful and tranquil area, where you can relish in the mesmerising views and walk along the empty coastline ankle-deep in the warm waters of gorgeous Andaman Sea.

A fair number of tourist facilities stand out this north-western area among other popular tourist retreats attracting travellers wanting to get away from noise and crowds. The powdery sand and the calm ocean (during the high season) feature the area, offering to lay around on the white sand or rent one of the sun lounges dotting the beach.

Swimmers will appreciate the absence of jet-skis scurrying to and fro along the shore of the majority of popular tourist locations limiting swimming only until buoys. Though, do not venture too far from the coast as currents here could be insidious and strong.

Things to See & Do in Naithon

Shopping

Naithon is a secluded and quiet area featuring with only a couple of shops and souvenirs stalls dotting the village. Set along the beachside road stores range from the little shops selling scuba diving and snorkelling gear to tailors to several mini marts.

A few street stalls and beach hawkers sell the usual number of souvenirs and knick-knacks but the selection is limited, so if you want to buy some quality gift or souvenir better to refrain from buying it in Naithon, and head to more touristic places for a better choice.

You can find some basic necessities and toiletries in the Naithon shops, however, for the more serious shopping head towards the south to the renowned shopping mecca of Patong or Kata.

Relaxation

Naithon offers mainly chill-on-the-beach sort of relaxation, although, sports enthusiasts still have numerous choices for their active leisure. Like many other beach retreats in Phuket, Naithon draws travellers with its amazing beach perfect for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving.

You can opt a more developed Naithon shoreline, rent a sun lounge, and people watch. Or walk along the beach through the rock formations to the nearby secluded and uncrowded Nai Yang shoreline to relish in the quiet beach relaxation with your favourite book. With its great marine life, schools of tropical fish and a recovering coral reef, Nai Yang is also excellent for snorkelling.

Naithon is an ideal to learn kite surfing (during the rainy season), as winds are not as strong here, as in other locations. A couple of kite school located across the beach will help you with rental gear or private lessons if you venture to try this thrilling sport.

Eating & Drinking in Naithon

Restaurants

Naithon beach is dotted with several restaurants and local-style shacks serving a fair range of Thai dishes at the beautiful setting. Even though the service can be somewhat slow, the key is to sit back, relax and immerse into the incredible view of the turquoise sea belting the silvery sand.

The tables and chairs set right on the sand can range from the basic plastic to the more elegant wooden settings with tablecloth and candle lighted after the sunset. Depending on the settings and decor, prices can vary too, however, it doesn’t really affect the quality of food.

Several more Western-style venues set across the road serve reasonably priced international cuisines. If you are feeling for the more habitual pizza or burger, opt one of these. Even though the number of dining establishments in Naithon is small, the quality of food compensates with a vengeance the limited choice of the venues.

Those seeking for seclusion can try to find a tiny eatery hidden in the southern end of the beach. The small restaurant built on the rocky platform serves only a few tables, and it’s hard to find the entrance but once you find, you will be rewarded with an amazing view and delicious Thai dishes.

Nightlife

You will never get enough of the breathtaking Phuket sunsets when the sky is awash with incredible colours shimmering with all shades of red, pink and orange.

Watching its spectacular view is better from your private swimming pool in one of the villas perched atop of the cliff or right from the beach, chilling out with a beer in one of the bars set along the coastline.

For the more sophisticated nightlife experience head to one of the fancy beach, clubs to indulge in the signature cocktails and relax under the beats of the lounge hits mixed by a resident DJ. You will not be disappointed with a laid-back, yet, attractive nightlife scene of Naithon.
