If you love all things white and creamy, you will immediately fall in love with the elegant décor that is Casa Mateo. The villa has a simple but welcoming theme that complemented the architecture and feel of the place. Special touches we adored were the large shell necklaces dotting the villa and the epic shell chandelier!

Casa Mateo’s location is simply unbelievable: close to all the Seminyak action, yet nestled in a little lane that immediately takes you away from the hustle and bustle.

You walk through the gardens and come to a spacious living and dining area. This large area faces the pool and all of the immaculate gardens, so subsequently this where we spent most of our days lounging by the couch or taking a dip in the bluest of pools before moseying over to the dining table for some nibbles.

Which colour would you choose?

There are six bedrooms at Casa Mateo. The orange and purple rooms sit by the garden facing the pool in a separate pavilion. Both these rooms have a double bed configuration, an ensuite and impressive décor such as Chinese warriors.

In the main building are the other four rooms, one being actually a cool loft in the attic for one of the kids, accessible only through a ladder. This gives the feeling like you’re living in a treehouse! This room also has a Japanese-style double bed.

Its tough to tell which of the other three rooms is the master bedroom as they are all so superb! The green room on the bottom floor boasts a magnificent, circular shower space with a bathtub. Upstairs, the brown room is smaller but flaunts a regal four-poster bed. We had the privilege of staying in the pink room which instantly became my favourite, mainly because of the accompanying cinema room and outdoor garden patio on the rooftop!

You can imagine what we all ended up doing each evening during our stay: the cinema room was the perfect choice for everyone, and is more than suitable for families travelling with children as they’ll be enthralled by the array of DVDs provided. The outdoor patio allows for dinner parties or even an area for kids to kick a ball around.

Enjoying the outdoors

The beauty of Casa Mateo is that its built with everybody in mind. If you’re a yoga buff or in Bali for a yoga retreat, you can covert the spa room and surrounding gardens into your very own yoga den. If you’re celebrating something, the expansive gardens can accommodate about 50 people comfortably. Parents travelling with younger children don’t have to be too worried as the kids have many things to do during their stay, but more excitingly, a wading pool separate from the ‘adult’ pool in the property.

And you can also make use of the sauna at the property before jumping into the large stone plunge bath. Talk about living!

Foodie heaven

We never needed to leave the villa. The pool, of which the 10m hanging vine backdrop on the wall feels like your own Hanging Gardens of Babylon, keeps you feeling peacefully rested and at one with nature. The chef at the villa was highly-skilled so that we couldn’t stop eating! We had the beef Rendang, mixed skewers (peanut dipping sauce was divine!), salmon salad and sliced beef salad over the course of our stay. All of these dishes come highly recommended.

Food at Casa Mateo

Around the hood

A mere 5 to 10 minute walk down and you’ll hit Seminyak Square. Here you will find the likes of Sisterfields, Grocer and Grind and the delightful Bali Bakery. Another five minutes down towards your right and you’ve hit Ku De Ta. Towards your left is Eat Street which hosts the likes of La Favela and Red Carpet.

We’d thoroughly enjoyed our time at Casa Mateo and would definitely love to be back. Read more about them or speak to our Villa Specialists.
