Senggigi Overview

Senggigi region set on the west coast of Lombok island is composed of four towns with the same-named capital Senggigi. Senggigi spans for 10 kilometres along the coastline and houses numerous bars and great value villa accommodations and hotels.

Even though the central beach of the town is a home to the pier that receives fast boat services from the nearby islands and Bali, Senggigi never gets overcrowded. Most of restaurants and nightlife are concentrated in the city centre and are easily reachable from other areas by car or motorbike. Most of the travellers use Senggigi as a base to explore Lombok further afield or to take a day trip to the nearby Gili Islands.

The upscale Mangsit located only three kilometres north from Senggigi provides an ample choice of hotels and amazing villas lining the sweeping beach with traditional outrigger boats dotting the shoreline. Mangsit is a more traditional resort town than Senggigi regarding tourist facilities and accommodation; it offers some of the best western beaches for your tropical holiday.

Things to See & Do in Senggigi

Shopping

A renowned Senggigi Art Market set in the centre of the town is where shoppers can hunt out some amazing handicrafts, locally made souvenirs and a usual collection of T-shirts, sarongs and accessories.

If you want to buy some authentic souvenir, head to one of the local stores dotting the town, where you will find a Lombok-style woodworks, tall masks and a wide selection of freshwater pearls.

Pearls sold by the hawkers on the beaches or in the centre are all authentic, however, can vary in shapes and colours as the majority of pearls used in the adornments are industry left-overs. Do not forget that prices are negotiable so you can purchase the jewellery at a half of the primarily announced price.

Relaxation

Surfing, diving and snorkelling are only a few activities to number that are available in Senggigi. Travellers seeking for the relaxed leisure will be spoilt for choice of the magnificent series of sweeping bays and aqua blue waters seducing to lay around.

Local women offer traditional therapeutic massages right on the beach, so you do not need to go far to get the ultimate relaxation and reduce the tense in your muscles after hours of paddling and swimming.

Those who prefer outdoor activities rather than the beach rest can opt a forest trekking, which is an excellent way to unwind, get a closer look to the naturally beautiful West Lombok, and pry into the traditional lifestyle of the local people in the rural villages.

Eating & Drinking in Senggigi

Restaurants

Senggigi has a surprisingly wide choice of eating establishments ranging from the local eateries to the Western-style restaurants. Most of the midrange restaurants line the beach or set along the main road of Senggigi.

The fine-dining in Senggigi is represented with some great establishments serving barbequed seafood and other local specialities at the stunning setting. Even though the prices in these venues are higher than in the midrange restaurants, the dining experience you receive is well worth paying a bit more.

Sample a popular evening meal – grilled corn – which is sold by the street vendors right on the beach. There are two dressings on choice: garlic butter and spicy. The spicy sauce might be very hot for the unused to local cuisine tourists so better to opt a garlic butter. For the truly authentic dining experience try satay ayam or chicken satay from the local street vendors; it’s a delicious traditional dish popular among locals.

Nightlife

Senggigi hosts numerous bars, which come to live when the sun goes down. Trendy tunes mixed by a local DJ or a live band playing acoustic music put Lombok’s nightlife in the row with Gilis.

After a savoury dinner in one of the restaurants, most of the travellers head to the beach to relish in a relaxed stroll and grab a beer or cocktail at the beach bar. Senggigi nightlife caters to people of all ages, providing an ample range of fun drinking venues featuring with a rather quiet ambience.

Even though there are not so many frantic parties and the nightlife is rather laidback, you will not be disappointed with the range of sophisticated drinking establishments and late-night venues showcasing sports broadcasts or providing vivid traditional dance performances.

Senggigi Villas

There are eight private Ministry Approved villas located within a 40-minute drive from the Senggigi pier, on the northern tip of the island. Due to a rather remote location, villa prices tend to be lower than in other popular tourst destinations. Lombok villas range from USD $190 per night for a two-bedroom villa to over USD $1,100 per night for a six-bedroom luxury villa.

Most of our villas have dedicated staff including butlers, chefs, nannies, 24-hour security personnel, and many other services you won’t find in a hotel. This is why we say “Spend just one night in a villa and you’ll never stay in a hotel again.”
