Tanjung Overview

Tanjung is an administrative capital of the North Lombok Regency, and it’s a fast developing tourist destination with several massive hotel resorts already built and still planned. Tanjung is a dainty morsel for investors: a strategic location nearby the Bengsal pier along with generous natural attractions stand out this beach town among other Lombok locations.

Most beaches in Tanjung are reasonably lonely, and you can expect to meet only a pesky hawker and a couple of visitors admiring the mesmerising sights. This beach town caters to those seeking a relaxing retreat.

Tanjung houses some great dining venues serving an eclectic mix of local and international cuisines adjusting flavours to the demands of foreign visitors. This north-western gem is a truly remarkable area providing lavish opportunities to relax and unwind during your holiday in one of the fabulous beachfront villas.

Things to See & Do in Tanjung

Shopping

Tanjung is a quiet area, and tourist facilities are still under development. The shopping scene here is limited to a large public market orienting more on local shoppers rather than on foreign clientele.

For the more serious shopping head to Senggigi area which is only 40 minutes drive from Tanjung, where you can hunt out some authentic gifts and souvenirs.

The nearby Bangsal beach and harbour, which serves as a departure and arrival point from the nearby islets is full of hawkers selling a usual selection of knick-knacks, souvenirs and authentic freshwater pearls that are grown in Lombok.

Relaxation

For many people playing golf is one of the best ways to relax and spend time with their friends. And Tanjung has a great experience on offer – the 18 holes championship golf course in the Kosaido Golf Club, which is tucked away between the splendid Sire Bay and slopes of Mount Rinjani on the western tip of Lombok island.

If the water activities suit your style more, there are fishing and boat charters available to bring you to the north-western part of the island and enjoy fishing from the boat or off some fantastic deserted beach. You can explore the nearby islets on the private chartered boat if slow public ferries are not your preferred way to cruise.

A classic way to relax and get a bit of pampering through the therapeutic massage or spa treatment is also available in Tanjung. You can opt a massage shop or ask your villa manager to invite a skilled masseuse, who will perform the treatment right at your private villa, so you do not even need to lift a finger to get the divine relaxation.

Eating & Drinking in Tanjung

Restaurants

Tanjung fine-dining is represented with several sophisticated restaurants located at hotel resorts. The cuisine ranges from the Western to Indonesian offering a suitable wine or a delicious cocktail to complete your exquisite supper.

The number of standalone eating venues catering to international tourists is rather limited. While walking along the main street of Tanjung township, you will find a few local-style eateries with the usual range of Indonesian dishes.

Nightlife

The dramatically beautiful scenery of the sunken sun in the waters of Lombok Strait is an utterly remarkable experience available right on Tanjung beach.

Watching the sunset is one of the favourite activities among both locals and tourists alike when the sky is awash with incredible shades of orange and red, and the sun paints the water with fabulous colours.

Tanjung is not a party town so do not expect a frantic nightlife in the area. If you are an avid party goer take a one day trip to the nearby Gili Trawangan island with bustling beach parties and absolutely insane Full Moon Events held monthly right on the beach.

Tanjung Villas

There are several Ministry Approved villas in Tanjung. As Tanjung features with rather laid-back and secluded atmosphere, with little development, villa prices tend to be lower than in other parts of Lombok. Tanjung villas range from USD $200 per night for two-bedroom villa resorts to over USD $1,100 per night for a nine-bedroom luxury villa.

Most of our villas have dedicated staff including butlers, chefs, nannies, 24-hour security personnel, and many other services you won’t find in a hotel. This is why we say “Spend just one night in a villa and you’ll never stay in a hotel again.”

Practical Information

Getting There

BY BOAT

Numerous fast boat services bring tourists from Bali to Lombok. The voyage takes between 2 to 2.5 hours. Depending on the travel agent, season and the route the ticket price can vary.

BY PLANE

Although it is possible to get to Tanjung, Lombok over land or water, the best way is to fly.

AIRPORT AND PIER TRANSFERS

It takes around 2 hours to reach Tanjung from Lombok International Airport (a.k.a. Bandara Udara International Airport) depending on traffic. Ministry of Villas can arrange a chauffeur to greet you upon arrival and escort you to your villa.

AIRPORT TAXI

Alternatively, there are several taxi companies available at the arrival level: Airport Taksi Koperasi, Blue Bird and Express Taxi. Make sure you have agreed on a price or metered rate with a taxi driver before getting into the vehicle.

Getting Around

There are plenty of options, so we’ve ranked them according to our recommendations for first-time travellers:

PRIVATE CAR

Ministry of Villas can arrange a private car and chauffeur for you. Depending on which villa you are staying in, the cost for the private car and chauffeur can vary, so it’s recommended to contact our Ministry of Villas team to get the complete information about the private transfers.

TAXI

The most common taxis available in Tanjung are Bluebird and Express Taksi with cars equipped with meters and ratio dispatch system. It might be challenging to find a taxi down the street, however, you can always require a taxi by phone or through your hotel or villa manager.

RENTAL SCOOTER

There are not too many rental shops in Tanjung, so it is recommended to hire a motorbike in the nearby Senggigi area if you prefer moving around on two wheels. Before renting a scooter make sure the bike is in proper mechanical condition. Most important: you must have an international drivers license on your person at all times otherwise the local police can issue you a ticket with a summons to appear in court. And, of course, make sure you wear a helmet.

RENTAL CAR

Even though you can find a rental shop in Tanjung, the selection might be limited, so it is recommended to rent a car at one of the numerous shops spread around Tanjung.

BOAT

You can get from Senggigi to Tanjung by a speedboat or small charter vessel if the road route is not your preferred way to move around. The speedboats can be found at the Teluk Nare beach to the south from Bangsal pier. Speed boat charters can also be hired for sightseeing trips or as a private transfer to the nearby Gili islands.

BICYCLE

Due to the reasonably light traffic in Tanjung getting around by bicycle is a great way to explore the area at your own pace and get a unique cultural experience. Ask at your hotel reception to rent a bicycle or your villa manager to organise the cycle trips.
