Travel Writing Tips
Write a colourful introduction that grabs the readers’ attention. Give them some background about a topic – make them want to read on. Be descriptive. Don’t simply tell readers that “the view is breathtaking” – tell them why – use evocative and specific words to explain what makes it so. Focus on the details, rather than the big picture.
Any content previously published online will be picked up by our tools and will not be approved. All written material must be significantly different from anything previously published and please avoid using quotes from other sources for this reason. Images can be added if you have taken them yourself and you’re happy to share them online.
TEN COMMANDMENTS
1. Avoid Alliteration. Always.
2. Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.
3. Avoid cliches like the plague.
4. Comparisons are as bad as cliches.
5. Be more or less specific.
6. Writers should never generalise.
Seven: Be consistent!
8. Don’t be redundant; don’t use more words than necessary; it’s highly superfluous.
9. Who needs rhetorical questions?
10. Exaggeration is a billion times worse than understatement.
