Location

Years ago it was surfers that discovered this part of the island, as Uluwatu is famous for it’s surf breaks. Fast forward 20 years and Uluwatu is now one of the most exclusive parts of Bali. Perched high on the cliffs looking out to the Indian Ocean at the southernmost tip of Bukit Peninsula. The area is home to some of the most luxurious villas and hotels in all of Bali including the stunning Alila Villas Uluwatu.

Even though there has been a lot of development over the years Uluwatu has been able to retain it’s natural beauty. The majestic Uluwatu temple sits high on the cliffs edge with wild but friendly monkeys swinging from the trees. Alila Villas Uluwatu is a 40-minute drive to Bali’s airport however that depends on traffic.

    “We found haven on earth!”

We spent a few days in Seminyak and Ubud before reaching our final destination “Alila Villas Uluwatu”. Although Bali is rich with breathtaking sceneries, “Alilla Villas Uluwatu” is definitely on another league… This place is truly heaven on earth. The service is impeccable (a special thanks to Uda who took care of our each and every need). I just dont know where to start, the food is amazing, people are friendly and service is outstanding but i think what should be most glorified is the scenery and the tranquility you get as you feel disconnected from the world!!!

We have promised Uda to come back when our family grows and we hope to be able to keep our promise.

“Fabulously relaxing – if that’s all you’re looking for.”

My husband and I spent two nights at Alila Villas a couple of weeks ago. The villa which we stayed in was fantastic: it was spotless, very well-maintained, extremely bright and airy with very good amenities. It was great to have a pool just off the main suite, a gazebo, sun loungers and a table for alfresco dining.

The service was impeccable. The staff were very good-natured, friendly and helpful (naturally so, not the put-on, pretentious type of “nice”) and did their very best to cater to our needs. I overheard a conversation between one guest who needed a shoehorn and upon finding that there wasn’t one in his room, asked a staff member the reason for this. She explained that it was because they want their patrons to be completely relaxed, they encourage them to wear sandals! She got him a shoehorn eventually and they both had a good laugh).

The only thing that stopped me from giving this hotel an “Excellent” review was the fact that there is very little to do here. If you’re not too fussed about just staying in your fabulous villa and moving around the resort in buggies, then it’s great. My husband and I are very outdoorsy and were looking for a chance to do more activities and were quite disappointed that apart from a beach, there wasn’t much else we could do. We climbed 600 steps (yep, there’s THAT many!) down a cliff onto a magnificent secluded beach which wasn’t really swimmer-friendly, unless you’re prepared to tread softly over mossy and sharp rocks to get to water.

The food was fine but not outstanding, considering the luxurious nature of the villa. That said, if you’re not too fussed about run-of-the-mill hotel-style cuisine, then it’s perfect. All in all, I would recommend Alila Villas to travelers seeking for nothing more than a little quite solitude and a whole lot of relaxation. If you’re looking for something more to do than beaching and golfing, you might want to reconsider your travel objectives :-) Because when all is said and done, Alila Villas is wonderful!
