If being close to the white sandy beach is a priority, nothing beats a stay at one of the two luxuriously bohemian two-bedroom beach pool villas. Crowned with a traditional thatched roof, this heavenly hideaway offers some tough choices: do you prefer the crystal clear waters of your own private pool or do you want to splash around in the salty waves of the ocean? “Ridiculously Good”

The wife & I just kept saying “ridiculous”
Loved this place as it easily exceeded our expectations. Best Resort we have stayed at by a mile.

    HIGHLIGHTS
The villa, the cocktails, the service, the food, the beach.

Lagoon Villa was amazing. Serviced twice a day. Heaps of space. 2 outdoor showers, 1 double head indoor shower & big bath. Huge bed. Swimming off the deck was fun, couple of flips n bombs were in order.
    Bluetooth Sound system was excellent.

Buffet Breakfast was the best I’ve seen. On request eggs (with Eggs Benedict), Asian hot pot, pancakes, crepes. Along with fresh made donuts, bagels with smoked salmon, curries, pastries, dips.. kids corner. So much to choose from.

Lunch was just as good, sushi one day, prawns the next…

Dinner had a different theme each night. Excellent selection each night.
    Dessert selection was ridiculous.

Cocktails. If you like a drink get the drinks package it’s well worth it. You have 30 plus cocktails to choose from and they are top class. Also has 20 plus wines on selection, and spirits. Water and coffee included with drinks package.

We also had lunch at The Crab Shack. The coconut prawns were awesome. Great place to hang out at as well, grab a lounge & relax the day away. Snorkelling is the best at the shack too.

The BaaHaa Grill is the pick of the restaurants if you want a more formal dining experience. The BBQ meats were the highlight.

Karasan was good.. but we’d had a few beverages that night.. fuzzy memory.

We got the boat transfer which was a great way to start the holiday, 20 minute trip through the islands. Ashfag the concierge at the airport was really helpful.

Upon arrival the reception take you through all details & then take you on a tour of the main features of the island. Inna from reception was great. Bendi our housekeeper was really friendly & made our anniversary special.

The Gym has high quality machines with a view to match. Lots of outdoor options.

Nightlife consisted of flame throwing performances, then kicked on with live music and/or DJ. Pack something for the white cocktail party (free drinks) & even mingle with staff. Pretty much the Aussies were the only ones dancing each night though. Haha.

Only criticism I have of the place is that the pool bar was not really in use. So you had to get the attention of the barman or jump out of the pool to order. Minor thing, but the only negative I could find.

We got the Luxury Escapes deal with drinks package, sunset cruise, transfers & 15m massage. Could not have had a better deal!

We wish we stayed longer and we can’t wait to come back with the kids and/or friends. This place is paradise and I think it will be hard to ever top this trip.

    “Paradise”

We spent 10 nights on Finolhu. From the moment we arrived on the island by seaplane it was fantastic. The staff were attentive, helpful, courteous and friendly..the island is stunningly beautiful. A perfect paradise was how we described it.

We stayed in an over water villa which was also stunning. Clean, comfortable, the best pillows we have ever slept on. The deck with access to the lagoon was brilliant. We used the spa where we had a wonderful massage.

The water sports staff were very helpful and friendly. We visited Amilla Fushi for the afternoon which was a nice trip out by speed boat. We went on a dolphin cruise and snorkelling with turtles. The marine biologist was very knowledgeable before and during the snorkelling trip
The food at all the restaurants was superb, we could not fault it.

The bar/pool area was very relaxing, good music, brilliant entertainment.
Would we return, yes in a heartbeat. Is it expensive? Yes..but worth every single penny.

“Best Holiday Ever!!!!!! Bucket List Ticked!!!!!”

After having The Maldives on our bucket list for many years, it was with some trepidation that we booked Finohlu through Luxury Escapes 12 months ago. After a year of anticipation, Finohlu exceeded our expectations on every level.

The location around the sandspit is simply stunning!!!! The Ocean overwater villa with plunge pool was fabulous – spacious, well designed with the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. We stayed 7 nights – but could have stayed forever.

We spent every morning snorkelling along the house reef in front of our villa for 2-3 hours. Whilst the coral is badly bleached & damaged, the fish life was phenomenal!! The coral is showing small signs of recovery, so it is hoped that the resort will foster the continued care & recovery of this special asset. You just need to swim out towards the drop off to encounter huge quantities & varieties of fish.

We would snorkel out to the very end of the overwater bungalows against the current & drift back along the drop off to the beach near The Cove Spa (or our bungalow if we’d had enough). We have snorkelled on The Great Barrier Reef, the Cook Islands, Vanuatu & Fiji, but the fish life along with water clarity was the best we have encountered. There was something new to see everyday – from swimming octupi, moray eels, black tip reef sharks, tropical fish of every variety from tiny to huge, turtles, sting rays, the list goes on.

We even found a lone Maldivian anemone fish! You just have to jump in the water & swim towards the blue & it’s all there to be found. The strange thing was, on many days we seemed to be the only people out there enjoying it!!

We loved the quirkiness of the signs all around Finohlu. Looking at the advertisements you could be deceived into thinking it is a party island. On the contrary, Finohlu caters to all ages & has just the right amount of vibrance/life about it. We went across to Amilla one day as our food & beverage packages could be used at the more expensive sister resort. We enjoyed lunch, a 2 hour snorkel along Amilla’s house reef & a drink before returning to Finohlu.

Surprisingly we found Amilla to be too quiet & not as visually appealing as Finohlu. Amilla’s house reef is much easier to access for the less experienced snorkeller than Finohlu, but overall we preferred Finohlu in all aspects – so more expensive isn’t always better!!

We were seriously impressed by the exceptionally high quality of the food & service at all of the restaurants at Finohlu. Breakfast & lunch At Baa Baa buffet was always enjoyable with daily changes to the menu & live cooking stations. As part of our package, we could dine at Baa Haa (Moroccan/Lebanese), Kanusan (Asian) or Baa Baa buffet (nightly different theme). All were outstanding. We especially enjoyed a pre-dinner drink at the Kanusan bar to watch the sandspit turn pink as the sun set.

Our stay was made perfect when we dined at Baa Haa Grill on our last night!!! Special thanks must go to the lovely Rebecca (Baa Haa’s restaurant manager), who surprised us with a beautiful candlelit table out on the sandspit!!!! There was no special occasion, just a wonderful act of kindness and generosity which took us completely by surprise.

Thank you so much Rebecca for an evening we will always remember!!!!

So as a total package, we rate Finohlu 5 stars for accommodation, food, service & location. Yes, it costs a bit to get there – the seaplane transfer is a must do – but you will not be disappointed!!!

PS. There is a live webcam mounted on the corner of the Kanusan bar. So for a bit of fun, you can go out on the beach in front of the Baa Baa buffet after breakfast or lunch & wave crazily to all of your family & friends at home. We did this to much hilarity in front of the other guest at Baa Baa & our family & friends in Australia who were messaging us to say they could see the “dancing dots” on the beach in the middle of the Indian Ocean!!

“Fun, quirky, relaxing and luxurious all rolled into Finolhu”

Stayed at Finolhu Resort for my wife’s birthday in late February. The level of service, the resort and its beaches takes you to another level. From the moment we arrived at the seaplane terminal (going to resort) to boarding our plane at the international airport to return home, a Finolhu representative was always there to guide us. Everything went seamless with the transportation and waiting time.

There are a lot of positive things we can write about the resort and our experience, although previous positive reviews are spot on and no need to repeat here.

The one main feedback I would like to mention is that a few more buggies around the resort wouldn’t got astray. Walking around the resort was fine for the first few days. Although the humidity and heat gets to you shortly after especially when it takes 15-20 minutes to reach your overwater villa.

Tip: There are a lot of scheduled activities/tours throughout the week. Although a couple of activities are only available once or twice per week. So if your staying for a short period of time, these activities can be easily missed. So check the timetable when you first get there and book in advance.

We would also like to thank the resort’s General Manager, Mark, for making us feel welcome.

Our verdict of Finolhu Resort is that it’s not the cheapest but it’s definitely value for money.

The only dilemma we now have is – how do we top this holiday? The simple answer is to go back.
