Set just outside Ubud, on the banks of the Ayung River. Both the one and two-bedroom villas have been maintained well for a small group of boutique villas. Not an issue of concern, however, the gardens are slightly dry, this is just because of the dry season and they will flourish again in the coming rainy season. The onsite restaurant is the perfect choice for dining in and enjoying views of the main pool, rice paddies and natural acustic soundtrack of the free flowing river.

Beautiful & Peaceful Location with Friendly Staff

Villa Semana was a peaceful oasis in Ubud. It’s a short drive from the town centre. Located in the midst of rice fields, where the air is fresh. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. Especially the staff providing breakfast. The breakfast choices are brilliant and everything is freshly made for you.

The villa was a nice size, with a small pool, our view overlooked the rice fields. There is a shuttle service which picks and drops you off from villa to Ubud town. Thank you for making our stay wonderful.

    Great place to relax

Location, location. Set in beautiful gardens overlooking the Agung River. Quiet and relaxing. Only went into Ubud once and that was enough – too busy. This hotel is only small and suits people looking for a relaxing holiday. Massages at the Spa down by the river were very good.

“Unbelievable villa set amongst rice terraces by the river. THIS is what you want for your Ubud escape.”

Hands-down Semana Villas has to be one of the most natural and beautiful villas going. One of the original villa properties to capture the serene “feeling” that most (if not all!) travellers are looking for when coming to Ubud and Bali, the view at the entrance alone is worth coming for.

Rice terraces patterned down the hill on the left form the main walking path, you then walk down past the authentic 1-bedroom villas on either side until you pass the expansive infinity pool and hear the rushing water of the river below you! I might be biased because we had such an awesome time (albeit too short of course!), but our villa Alamanda had the best position with a private pool overlooking the long bend of the Agung River. We even saw locals come down and dip in the water from time to time! If you want an even more relaxing experience, pop down the stairs and they have massage tables and a spa area right on the river bank, with highly-trained masseuses that can knead away any stress! Simply unforgettable.

We took the convenient shuttle out to the main Ubud area for a lovely dinner and a spot of shopping, but to be honest, we wanted to get back to the villa as soon as we left the doors. Did I mention no children under 12? A couple’s paradise for sure. The staff and management were all very professional and informative… technology just seems out of place here at Semana Villas, so just embrace nature. Will be looking at bringing my parents back and see if we can nab the only 2-story corner villa next time!

“It is you and nature becoming one”

Get ready to be taken into another realm with your stay at Villa Semana. If you’ve had it with the city life and you’re needing for a perfect jungle escape that has nothing but the sound of the trees, birds, crickets (and sometime geckos) then this is the place you should be.

Villa Semana is about a 15-minute car ride from Ubud’s city centre. But you’ll not mind that: as your driver flings the door open upon arrival, lush green rice terraces await you. You don’t have to take a drive to the famous Tagalalang rice paddies to watch the sun set over the rice paddies, because you have it al right here with your stay at Villa Semana.

This tranquil complex houses two bedroom and one bedroom villas, and do not allow for children below 12. And rightfully so, seeing as its surrounded by forests and steep drops that lead to the Agung river.

We stayed at Villa Alamanda – the first few villas to be built by Villa Semana. We were welcomed by a pot of flowers accompanied by a lovely note. Our one-bedroom property had a large private pool that faced the fast flowing Agung river. You really do experience the ‘real bali’ here: each evening you have the local villages coming down to the river with their families to take a bath and wash their clothes. There are also villas that face the rice paddies, if that is what floats your boat.

Villa Semana offered us a complimentary 10 minute head and shoulder massage. Initially, we wanted to get it done in the room as were were In a rush, but was glad that the staff recommended having it at the spa centre itself because we cannot even bring to describe how wonderful it is having a massage while listening to the sound of the flowing river (literaly 10m from you) and he crashing waterfall.

Villa Semana offers a pick up and drop off service to the centre of the city, with the last pick up at 10:30pm (not to worry – most things in Ubud start wrapping up then). Alternatively, you can book a driver that would set you back about USD$15 per hour.

The breakfast was very well done. I had scrambled eggs on toast with a side of bacon, ham and smoked salmon. The bacon was a little too well done, but the serving for the eggs was fantastic. We decided to have breakfast in our room, while looking over into the river and listening to the birds.

Our time at Villa Semana was great and I would definitely recommend this to those ‘serenity seekers’ looking to do a Yoga retreat, or for those purely wanting to run away from the craziness of life.

“Superb, wish we had stayed longer!”

We are a family of 5 with adolescents, we stayed 5 nights at the hotel and enjoyed every minute. Set just outside of UBUD, the hotel offers the most breathtaking views of the river and luxuriant greenery to one side and rice fields to the other, a very beautiful and tranquil location only minutes away from the town accessible via the free shuttle service if you want to experience more hustle and bustle. Ideal for visiting the rest of Bali, and relaxing on return from personalised visits and excusrsions organised with expert assistance from the hotel, nothing is too much trouble. The restaurant serves excellent food at almost any time and the breakfast is unbelievable, a great way to start a busy day. The hotel owner also gave us excellent advise on where to ennjoy local delicacies such as suckling pig. The rooms are very comfortable and authentically decorated.. The personal pools were a bit of a let down as very small, usefull for cooling off but not for a swim, however the main pool is fabulous and so is verything else! wish we had stayed longer !

    “A piece of paradise!”

Stayed at Villa Semana for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The villa is gorgeous and well appointed. The pool is perfect size for a dip. We indulged in the spa treatment which was amazing beside the river. The most memorable part of our trip. The breakfast was extremely good value to be included with our room (al la cart) and the location although a little far from town, is easily accessible by the free shuttle bus.

“Stunning location, impeccable service, can’t wait to come back!”

I stayed at Villa Semana for 5 nights with two friends in June this year. The service was by far the best we experienced in Bali- the staff were flexible in order to accomodate our needs, consistently polite and friendly as well as very professional.

The location is spectacular, set in rainforest between rice paddies and a beautiful river, far from the hussle and bustle of the town centre.

We loved the restaurant set next to the infinity pool- great for drinks at sunset. The included breakfast was delicious (try the berry pancakes!) One of the highlights was the day spa which is located on a bend in the river- the semana massage was heavenly and the sound of the river running past made the experience even more relaxing.

You won’t regret staying here for a moment. Can’t wait to come back!
