I love the way Sepalika fuses Sri Lankan heritage with comfort. The estate is vast – so much space to run around – I felt free here!

Hidden gem! The villa has interesting pieces that the owner has collected over the years, antique furniture, books, retro bits and pieces and it all comes together to create an interesting space. Huge gardens, 3 x almost equal size rooms in a quiet spot just 20 minutes from the beach.

Our stay at Villa Sepalika was amazing! Thank you so much for looking after us during the past few days at this wonderful location, The garden is beautiful with many different animals visiting. The pool is perfect, especially with two small boys. The house has everything you want for a family holiday in Sri Lanka. The food you prepared for us was excellent! The colonial atmosphere at the villa fits perfectly in Galle’s Dutch history. As a family, we simply had a great time and we hope to revisit Villa Sepalika again in a few years when the boys will be older. Thank you very much for a great family holiday!

    Perfect Villa for Travelling Family

We are a family of 5 with 3 young kids and we stayed here for 10 days. The villa has everything you need, rooms are great and well maintained and the pool and surrounding gardens are great for enjoying throughout the day and night. Plenty of outdoor space for kids to run around and explore, gardens are beautifully maintained and we were lucky enough to see a few varieties of animals during our stay. The villa staff are very accommodating and helpful – along with providing fantastic meals throughout the stay. Location is inland and only a short tuk tuk ride to the main beaches, shops and restaurants. We would recommend this villa to anyone who is looking for a relaxing and great place to stay whilst in Sri Lanka. Thank-you to all at Villa Sepalika!

Piece of paradise in Sri Lanka
We ended our August 2019 stay at Villa Sepalika with our 3 children aged 12, 15, and 17. Wonder from the opening of the Portal, with a beautifully wooded park, a very beautiful and large swimming pool, in front of a colonial-inspired house, where all the details are very decorative. The careful decoration in the choice of materials, colors, and objects is a feast for the eyes. The staff is lovely and listened to all of our requests. Bandara, the manager, had a permanent concern to make our stay as pleasant as possible with a lot of attention towards our teenagers, anticipating their ferocious appetites! The dinners taken in the dining room were discoveries each evening, with the best Rice & Curry of our stay! In short, a perfect place…, where we will come back!

To all the team at Villa Sepalika, thank you for an amazing week at this tropical paradise. Special thanks to William, Bandara, Dominika, and the chefs for looking after us so attentively. The villa was kept immaculate and the food was delicious. The curry was so good on the first night that we ordered it for the rest of the week. William and Domika made sure the birthday and engagement celebrations we had were extra special. We enjoyed every moment from the well-organized trips to watching the monkeys from the pool. We would love to return sometime in the future.

We stayed as a group of 3 couples who holiday together every year, and this by far was the best villa we have ever stayed at. The house is quite simply stunning. It only has three rooms but enough space for about 20 people! The pool is massive as are the grounds and patio areas. It is relatively new build but has been finished in a very expert way with fixtures, fittings and furniture quite clearly lovingly hand picked to complement the house and give it an old colonial feel. All rooms are air conditioned and also have ceiling fans, more of which are scattered around the house at strategic points. All beds are 4-poster beds with mosquito nets and the bathrooms are partly open air, making you feel close to nature. Speaking of which the grounds themselves are awash with nature: peacocks roaming, several friendly large lizards, monkeys in the trees and of course the beautiful array of birds (we had a Golden oriel nest right next to the house with three chicks in) so remember to pack some binoculars (although the house of course does provide those too!). There are an array of toys/patio games etc to use if you get bored swimming and birdwatching!
The house has 6 permanent staff: a house manager (either Bandara or William, both of whom are superb), a chef, a cleaner and three groundsmen, who double up as security guards at night. We never had a key to the house nor locked our rooms as you feel perfectly safe as someone is on site all of the time. It really could be seen as your own personal 3 bedroom hotel. Breakfast is included every day (toast, fresh fruit and the best homemade pineapple marmalade and yoghurt) and the chef is available to cook lunches and evening meals for a very reasonable price. The food is very good, but of course you will likely be visiting some of the many local restaurants. It is easy to get around as Bandara or William will organise Tuk Tuks, which are always on time and will be there to take you home again at the end of the day. As an example, a return trip for 6 (3 Tuk Tuks) to Galle Fort and back (about 15 minutes each way) is about 5-6000 rupees, (about £25).
The house also has cable television which shows live premier league and European Cup football (as well as the habitual cricket).
The house is off the main tourist area which is actually very good (unless you really want a place on Unawatuna Beach) and is very easy to get to (the Tuk Tuks of course, and is about 10 minute ride to Unawatuna).
JC the owner is very prompt in his replies and goes out of his way to ensure that everything is up to standard.
Local areas to go: Obviously Galle Fort, Unawatuna beach is quite touristy and a bit like a Spanish beach resort. We much preferred Koggala Beach (again about 15 minutes away). Massive beach with virtually no one on it and some lovely restaurants.
So all in all, I would strongly recommend Sepalika, it really is a little bit of paradise.

Higlight of Our Trip to Sri Lanka

The Gjessings, 2 adults and 4 kids, stayed at Villa Sepalika for 4 nights during our three week stay in Sri Lanka, and what a stay!

We enjoyed our selves immensely and really would not want to leave.
JC, Bandara and the rest of the staff provided the best service, helpful insights, advice and suggestions to make our stay and outings really super!
The food prepared was tasteful, healthy and well adapted to our family’s needs.
We travelled with our four kids aged 13, 11, 9 and 5, and for them the pool, garden and not to mentioned all the local friends they made will be something to be talked about for for the rest of our life!

Thank you so much for having us!

I recommend everyone going to Sri Lanka, to get some nights at the great Villa Sepalika to totally unwind, relax and experience new things at this unique place.

A Home Away From Home For Large Families

When we got there at night our driver did not know the location and we were a bit apprehensive. However once we got into the compound and saw the house we were all relieved. It is a Colonial style house kept in excellent condition. The place is clean, with spacious bathrooms and an excellent swimming pool. They have many toys and games available for children. The hosts were also very nice and made good Sri Lankan food.

Amazing place. We loved Villa Sepalika. So much space. Beautifully decorated and designed. Fabulous food from the Chef. The kids loved the enormous pool. We saw monkeys, peacocks, iguanas, and so many tropical birds. I would highly recommend this villa. We will be back!

    “Beyond Excellent”

The photographs and description do not begin to do justice to this fantastic villa. The living space, bedrooms, bathrooms, courtyard, veranda and pool are all exquisitely laid out, generous and beautifully interior designed. The house is an absolute delight. Full of antique features integrated into an elegant new build, with lovely touches, stylish decoration throughout, and artistic displays of fresh tropical flowers.

The four poster beds have comfortable thick mattresses and linen sheets. The bathrooms have open roofs over the showers, so when it rains you can literally enjoy a genuine tropical rain shower. But it is the management of the villa by Mr Bandara, the wonderful chef, the house-keeper, gardeners, security man that makes this place so special.

You could not meet a kinder, nicer more dedicated team. The whole garden which is visited by wild peacocks and the occasional monkey is raked every morning, with every leaf collected, and the pool cleaned. Then there’s the food. Which is superb, beyond what you might expect even at a French owned villa – there’s a menu of ideas you can chose from at very reasonable prices – I think our food bill worked out at a bit less that £20 per person per day for breakfast lunch and dinner. We enjoyed a great cookery demo.

This is real luxury, the discrete with excellent service, an enormous pool and beautiful garden. Staying at Sepalika is an absolute treat, and highly recommended.

To go to Galle takes about 15 minutes in a tuktuk, costing approx Rs1000. Various beaches are a short drive down the road. There are interesting temples nearby. The Villa itself is up a short track close to the Ginigala junction which tuktuk drivers and locals seem to know how to find. One word of warning – we taught Bandara how to play racing demon but by the fifth game he was beating all of us.
