When the daily grind starts getting to you and you need a little break from reality, there’s nothing like a sneaky trip to Seminyak to perk up your mood. Bali’s most sought-after neighbourhood offers an endless selection of great restaurants, cute coffee shops, trendy boutiques, affordable spas… and of course, the beach! Ku De Ta, Cocoon and Potato Head are just few of the fabulous beach clubs lining Seminyak’s sandy shores.
But where to stay in this sought-after area? Next to the restaurants and beach clubs, Seminyak is dotted with countless villas. When browsing online, all of them look great. In reality, it’s a different story all together. The fabulous photos you’re seeing online might be a decade old and as the years have passed, the villa might have gone from shabby chic to just plain old shabby.
This is why we at Ministry of Villas regularly inspect our villas in person – to make sure that the photos you’re looking at match the actual product. Every now and then, we’re lucky enough to get to stay overnight.
So, back to the task at hand: where to find clean, comfortable accommodation in the heart of the action without breaking the bank? Well, the search is over. Without further ado, let us present: The Kumpi Villas.
Introducing The Kumpi Villas
The Kumpi Villas is a boutique complex of four villas nestled just off Jalan Kayu Aya (aka Eat Street) in Seminyak. There are two two-bedroom villas and two three-bedroom villas within The Kumpi Villas estate. Staying in a villa complex is a great option if security is a concern. Like most villa complexes, The Kumpi Villas include 24-hour security at the estate entrance.
If you’re travelling to Bali with a bigger party, two of the villas share a connecting door between them, meaning they can easily be booked together as a five-bedroom option. This offers great value for bigger groups in such a central location. An added incentive: if you book the two interconnecting villas, you’ll also have access to two swimming pools!
The Kumpi Villas have a clean and contemporary design with subtle Balinese touches. The ground-floor living and dining room has an open-sided layout which gives directly out to the pool. This being the tropics, the staff sprays the space regularly to keep the mozzies at bay, as well as providing coils and mosquito repellent for the guests.
The villas are built over two floors, with the two floors connected through a beautiful floating staircase. If you’re bringing the kids, a stair gate is available upon request.
All the bedrooms at The Kumpi Villas include mini fridges, TVs and DVD players. Personally, I’m just a sucker for their beautifully presented toiletries!
Services at The Kumpi Villas
When the Ministry of Villas’ team stays at one of our villas, we don’t just focus on the design, condition and cleanliness of the villa – though those are all very important as well. We’re also looking at the level of service. Like all our villas, The Kumpi Villas include housekeeping and boy does it show. From top to bottom, these villas are kept immaculately clean.
Overall, the service at The Kumpi Villas is perfect for those who prefer a bit more privacy. Besides housekeeping, the villas offer room service, which means that the staff is only present when needed and the rest of the time you get to enjoy the villa in private. The Kumpi Villas have an extensive take-out menu and the staff can organise all deliveries. In other words, you could technically spend your whole holiday without leaving the villa at all! (Bonus points: a daily breakfast is included in the rates.)
Finally, The Kumpi Villas also include 24-hour security service, which offers a nice sense of security and a peace of mind.
Staying in the Heart of Seminyak
When we say that The Kumpi Villas are located in the heart of the action, we really mean it. A 300-metre stroll from the villas brings you straight to Seminyak’s famous Eat Street. This is the epicentre of Bali’s culinary scene and also offers great shopping.
As soon as you reach Eat Street, you’ll be greeted by Nirvana (be sure to catch their fire dancers) and Ultimo (one of the best Italian restaurants in Bali). A little further down the street, Revolver Espresso serves some of the best coffee on the island. If you’re looking for a fun night out on the town, Red Carpet Champagne Bar and La Favela are tried and tested favourites and conveniently, both are located just down the road from The Kumpi Villas.
Best of all, The Kumpi Villas also offers a complimentary shuttle service within the Seminyak area so getting around will really be a breeze.
Unfortunately, staying in the heart of the action can sometimes mean that you’ll also be sleeping with earplugs on. Luckily, The Kumpi Villas are discreetly tucked into a quiet street away from the main hustle and bustle. This is an established area with no construction going on – and no Bali dogs chasing you down the street once you’re out and about.
When you’re back at the villa relaxing by the pool, you might as well be on a private island all your own, but instead, you’re in the heart of Bali’s most cosmopolitan neighbourhood. If you ask us, this really is having the best of both worlds.
