I’ve stayed in a lot of villas across Asia, but there was something about The Sandals that clicked the moment we walked through the front door. Maybe it was the view – that wide stretch of lawn leading down to the beach, the sea just visible between the trees. Or maybe it was the quiet hum of the place, the kind of calm that tells you this is where you slow down properly.

We were a small group on our last stop in Sri Lanka, and The Sandals turned out to be the perfect finale.

First Impressions

The villa itself is clean and coastal in style – lots of white, cool blues, and open spaces that let the breeze roll in. We arrived late afternoon, and within minutes we were barefoot, drinks in hand, walking out to the pool. You can hear the ocean from almost everywhere, and that sound became our background for the next few days.

The staff were ready and waiting, warm and professional. One of those teams that knows how to take care of guests without ever feeling overbearing. Meal times in particular stood out – plates served seamlessly, drinks topped up without asking, wine poured with a quiet smile. It’s those small things that really stick with you.

Life at The Sandals

We settled into a pretty steady rhythm: breakfast outdoors, long walks on the beach, a swim, then hours spent sprawled in the living room doing very little at all. One evening, someone turned on the karaoke machine, and what started as a joke ended up being one of the most memorable nights – off-key singing, plenty of laughter, no one in a rush to go to bed.

The dining room was set up beautifully each time, and I loved the blue-and-white theme – fresh and simple. Meals were a highlight. I recognised the chef from another villa we’d visited before, and he didn’t disappoint. Everything was beautifully cooked – comforting without being fussy. The final night dinner, with everyone gathered around the table for one last meal in Sri Lanka, felt exactly right.

Would I Come Back?

In a heartbeat. The Sandals felt like the kind of place you return to. Not because it’s flashy or overly styled, but because it just works. It gives you space to breathe. It invites you to slow down. And when the sun sets behind the palms and everything turns that golden, early-evening colour, it feels like the only place you want to be.

If you’re heading to Sri Lanka with a group – family, friends, or a bit of both – this is the kind of villa you’d be lucky to land in.
