Making my way to Akara Villas M, I cruise down the hip Jalan Petitenget. I’m blinded by the sheer number of new restaurants and cool new shops I have to visit ASAP. Whether you’re a foodie or want to do some serious shopping, this really is the most happening part of Bali. Then I turn a corner to a small lane and just like that, the crows disappear.
Timeless Style in Petitenget
Akara Villas M sits in an amazingly quiet cul-de-sac as part of the Akara Villas estate. This is a small community of villas, so it doesn’t feel like a generic resort. Each villa is perfectly self-contained and private. If you’re travelling to Bali with a big group, Akara Villas M is right next door to Akara Villas 1, Akara Villas 3 and Akara Villas 8.
I open the private gate to Akara Villas M and hey presto – I’m transported into a private oasis, protected by high walls on all sides. The villa’s design is a fresh mix of modern style and traditional touches. The villa has high ceilings and crisp white walls, with woven carpets and vibrant tapestries harking back to Indonesian heritage. The villa is very chic and modern, but at the same time, it leaves no doubt about your geographical location. And that private pool sure adds a nice tropical touch…
Easy Living… and Coffee!
Akara Villas M has three bedrooms. One bedroom is located on the ground floor, with glass doors opening out to the pool. This room houses a dreamy double canopy bed. The ensuite bathroom is massive and with that gorgeous sunken bathtub, it kind of feels like having your very own spa.
The other two bedrooms are located upstairs. One room houses twin beds and the other a double bed. Both rooms have their own ensuite bathroom. The two rooms are connected through a spacious wrap-around balcony – the perfect spot for enjoying your morning coffee in peace.
As always, it’s the details that make the biggest impression. All the beds are draped with crisp white linen that’s whiter than snow. Purna and the rest of the staff are endlessly gracious and offer just the right mix of hospitality and privacy. Ever the coffee fiend, I can hardly contain myself when I see the coffee maker waiting in the kitchen: a beautiful bright-red Saeco.
Peace & Quiet in the Heart of the Action
During the day and even through the sizzling Bali nights, Akara Villas M stays unbelievably quiet. Listening to the trickle of the poolside waterfall and looking up at the starry skies, you have to remind yourself that you really are in the epicentre of Bali’s nightlife and restaurant scene. The villa’s second-floor terrace opens out to spiffing views overlooking Bali’s most exclusive rooftops. We really are right in the heart of the action, hidden in plain sight.
As a guest at Akara Villas M, the world is your oyster. Or at least, Bali is! Sunset cocktails at Potato Head Beach Club? You got it, just head next doors. Maybe a little Sunday brunch at W Bali’s Starfish Bloo restaurant? No problem – just a 5-minute walk and you’re there.
To make moving about even easier, the villa also provides a free shuttle service within the Seminyak area. If you feel like staying in for the night, the staff can arrange food delivery from the area’s fabulous restaurants. The ever popular Biku, which sits just 100 metres from the villa, serves a mean nasi campur (mixed rice with veggies, shredded chicken and more).
