Where to begin… Umbala the House is truly breathtaking! A neo-Hamptons beach house with exotic southeast Asian design elements, it’s beauty and tranquillity is a delight.

Light and airy, with a soft seaside colour palette, attention to detail in all fittings, and beautiful objet d’art, it earns the name Umbala, which means “colour” in Zulu language. It’s easy to pass hours relaxing and appreciating the ambient blend of colour, pattern and texture.

But not only is it breathtakingly beautiful, it is also practical, with carefully thought out spaces to accommodate families and friends.

Peaceful Oasis

Located on a quiet lane close to restaurants and shops, it is a peaceful oasis away from the vibrant, bustling Canggu that continues its unstoppable development as Asia’s hottest neighbourhood. The u-shaped building frames the open sky, with views of kites and temple tops adding to its charm. The wrap around pool is a centrepiece, with a sunken lounge and swim up bar to add to the luxe experience.

Gourmet Heaven

I would say the highlight of our stay was be spoiled by the wonderful chef and his team in the kitchen.

Breakfast included fresh fruit, pancakes, omelettes and they even have Vegemite (an Australian spread made from yeast extract). Aperitivo hour was enjoyed beside the pool with tomato and olive bruschetta. At night we enjoyed homemade pizzas, pastas and traditional dishes like nasi goreng around the enormous dining table inside.

As with the decor, the food was prepared with attention to detail and elegant presentation.

Home Comforts with Designer Style

Umbala the House offers a modern luxury villa experience which skilfully blends comfort, Balinese hospitality and designer style.

The upper floor features a magnificent master bedroom with ensuite and personal lounge deck, joined along a hallway to the playfully decorated children’s bunk room. On the same level is a family media room.

On the ground level, there is another exquisitely appointed bedroom, with neighbouring twin room connected by a double bathroom, ideal for a second family. There is yet another queen room overlooking the pool lounge, a large kitchen, media room and 12 seat dining table to bring family and friends together.

Close to the Action / Preserved from Interruption

Umbala the House is a welcome tonic to the busy, bustling Canggu outside, and a gorgeous base to explore the local area.

The villa is situated down a laneway, away from the main street. We testify that we did not hear a single bike horn, car exhaust or social eruption – we were beautifully cocooned in lavish comfort – preserved from interruption, so to speak.

Of course, the younger travellers of our group took it upon themselves to explore Canggu and take advantage of all it has to offer! The beach, restaurants, skate park and more are just minutes away.
