When your villa is located in an area known as Millionaire’s Mile, you already know you’re in for something quite special. This exclusive enclave in Kamala on Phuket’s scenic west coast is home to some of the most jaw-dropping villas in Thailand – and dare we say, on the planet. The fabulous Villa Saan is no exception.
Located within the Cape Amarin estate, Villa Saan sits on a cascading hill overlooking the piercing blue Andaman Sea. As soon as we drop our bags in the lobby, it’s clear we’re in for a fabulous stay. The villa has one of the grandest entryways, ever. The foyer’s soaring ceiling has a peaked arch and it’s directly connected to the pool and apparently, the ocean below.
A-List Entertainment
Though the design is stunning, Villa Saan is not just about the views and architecture – this villa is tailor-made for entertaining and having a ball. Besides the open-sided lounge, Villa Saan has a spacious living and dining room where we retreat to enjoy the AC after a day spent out in the sun. The huge dining table is big enough to seat all 12 of us for a shared breakfast each morning.
But that’s nothing compared to what’s waiting on the other side of the pool.
Villa Saan has a fabulous games room with a stylish bar that has some serious Great Gatsby appeal. The billiard room is followed my favourite room in the whole villa: a state-of-the-art cinema where the reclining leather seats make it feel like you’re flying in business class. We spend an evening flipping through the movie selection on iTunes (yes, they have Apple TV!) and finally settle on renting Atomic Blonde.
Bring Your Entourage
Villa Saan can sleep up to 16 people, so this is a fabulous villa for entertaining your entourage. The bedrooms are well spread apart over three floors but most rooms still have another bedroom close by so parents can check up on the kids and friends can pop over for a late-night gossip with ease.
All the bedrooms have a light and bright décor and all of them offer views of the ocean. But the master bedroom is really something.
Villa Saan’s master suite sits on the top floor and offers an outdoor bathtub and an ocean view Jacuzzi. We can happily report that this room is perfect for a sneaky girls’ get together… and maybe for snapping just a few indulgent mirror selfies.
Foodies Welcome
It’s safe to say that one of the best things about staying in a villa, or about travelling or, well, life in general, is the food! As soon as we’ve picked our rooms and are done settling into our new digs, Villa Saan’s staff lays out a magnificent buffet spread of Thai style chicken, beef, veggies, rice, soft drinks – the works. What is it about sea views that makes all things yummy taste even better?
The night we feel like dining out, our driver (organised by the villa’s helpful staff of course) brings us to Kamala’s main dining strip in just 10 minutes. This is a nice lively area with plenty of opportunities for dining, shopping and people watching, but it’s far less rowdy than Patong. We have a relaxed evening of good conversation and good food – just what the doctor ordered after a few hectic days of traveling around the island. If you really want to let your hair down, Patong is also within a 15-minute drive from Villa Saan.
On our last evening in Villa Saan, after the stars have crept up to the sky, we sit relaxing in the poolside lounge. There’s a wedding happening across the bay and the tropical night is alive with fairy lights and a chorus of hip-hip hoorays. It’s hard to imagine a more magical setting for your nuptials – or for one of our last nights in Phuket.
