The highlight of our Sri Lankan adventure was a grandiose boat cruise on the Bolgoda Lake. Onboard the 3,000 square feet Flow vessel we experience opulent dining, thrilling water activities and fantastic animal sightings, all wrapped together with stellar service and magnificent natural surroundings.
Introducing Flow’s Oruwa Boats
A truly one-of-a-kind experience, Flow is an enticing Sri Lankan oruwa-style boat modelled after a traditional Walauwa house, with generous inclusions and chic amenities available onboard. Flow offers two boats, with the option of choosing between two and three bedrooms. Relaxing by the large windows while the boat gently glides across the lake offers unique scenes of the untamed nature surrounding you.
Opulent Dining on Flow Boats
The fabulous cuisine on board is a delightful fusion of sophisticated Mediterranean flavours and exotic Asian influences. Choose between two sets of a four-course meals or opt for à la carte and treat your taste buds to a fabulous feast of fresh seafood, chicken satays and mouth-watering BBQs. Beautifully presented, the starters are true culinary masterpieces as well as the desserts and breakfast dishes. There is even a dedicated kids menu available! Needless to say, all dishes are cooked using fresh local produce following a farm-to-plate principle.
Dinner is usually served under the stars on the upper-deck – unless you prefer dining on the solid ground in the marina. I’ll never forget our last dinner aboard. While dining, we spotted two shimmering spots on the water’s surface. These turned out to be a hungry crocodile’s eyes, hunting under the cover of night.
The fishing aficionados among us enjoyed a fantastic fishing trip and we could all savour their catch which was cooked by the resident chef. For those who love learning something new, cooking classes are also available, with an expert chef demonstrating the art of mixing local spices and bringing authentic Sri Lankan flavours straight to your plate.
A Day in The Marina
The cruise boats depart from the exclusive Marina Club, which offers a relaxed and serene getaway. If you want to spend a relaxed day with friends and family, unwind or even pump up the adrenaline, the Flow facility invites you to enjoy water sports, soak up the sun and dine in style. Featuring a pristine swimming pool surrounded by beanbags and daybeds, The Marina Club offers the wide array of water activities to indulge in: jet skiing, fishing, tubing, boat rides… and the list goes on. My son and I spent a couple of memorable hours at the Marina while my husband had a thrilling jet-ski ride on the lake.
Our Sri Lankan adventure simply wouldn’t have been complete without the glorious Flow excursion provided by the Amber Collection. Year after year, we find ourselves returning to this charming island and every time Sri Lanka offers us new thrilling adventures. This time around, we discovered the beautiful Lake Bolgoda on board an authentic oruwa vessel and I must admit it was one of the most memorable experiences of my life.
