Seamlessly blending in with the surrounding nature, Talalla House evokes the feel of a lost paradise where your only neighbours are sand, sun and the roaring ocean. Intimate and secluded, the villa houses seven equally sized bedrooms, all offering vistas of the Indian Ocean and a level of privacy you won’t find anywhere else.

Arriving at Talalla House

On arrival, we were welcomed with unparalleled Sri Lankan hospitality with smiling staff greeting us with delicious welcome drinks made from my favourite – passion fruit! After picking out our rooms, my son and I headed to the beach to frolic in the ocean and to build endless sandcastles. I couldn’t help but feel like Robinson Crusoe on an uninhabited island with scenic vistas and endless sea all to myself.

Elegant Design

Everything about the villa exudes style and elegance and as soon as you enter, you can’t help but feel charmed by the welcoming atmosphere. Vintage lamps and inviting cushioned sofas, a soft colour palette and a great collection of books – every inch of the property has been carefully curated to cater to a sublimely relaxing stay.

Exquisite Dinners and Rustic Breakfasts

If you are a sunset aficionado like us, then Talalla House is just the place for you. Perched on the rooftop is a romantic lounge area with emerald green grass covering the concrete and stylish armchairs and couches tailor-made for wine and cocktails at sunset. After the sun had sunk, we headed downstairs to the main living room, ready to savour the sumptuous dinner that had been prepared for us. For the first time in Sri Lanka (where we had been following a dominantly vegetarian diet), we had grilled tuna steaks with fresh salad seasoned with a deliciously light dressing.

The next morning, we awoke to a glorious breakfast that included village omelettes –  a style I’d never seen before! – fresh fruit and delightful mocktails. I was beyond touched when the staff surprised us with mouth-watering banana pancakes cooked specially for my son. And would you believe it – my two-year-old ate three huge pancakes and licked the plate clean!

Barefoot Living at Talalla House

Each day we spent at Talalla House, we woke up to fabulous ocean views and fell asleep lullabied by the sound of the surf. After lazy midday naps, we headed downstairs to the state-of-the-art swimming pool. The days passed by following this relaxed pace, highlighted by long afternoon walks on the beach and elegant candlelight dinners. Secluded, tranquil and sublimely comfortable, the villa’s ambience and setting cater to families and large groups wanting to enjoy Sri Lanka’s unspoiled nature away from the madding crowd.

Talalla House Location

Talalla House sits in a quiet corner of its namesake village and boasts an absolute beachfront position. There aren’t many restaurants in the village but adjacent to the villa is the scenic Donhra Head Lighthouse and the beautiful seafront temple of Matara Paravi Duwa.
