We all need that quiet place where we can escape when the pace of living becomes just too hectic. For me, that place has always been Nusa Lembongan with its crystal clear waters and marvellous white-sand beaches, endless island charm and an array of cool beach bars and sunset restaurants to choose from. This time, we were lucky to be staying in one of the loveliest villas on the island – the splendid Escape villa located on the island’s trendy western coast.
Getting to Nusa Lembongan from Bali
Countless fast boat services offer comfortable and easy transfers from Bali to Nusa Lembongan. We took a fast boat from Serangan straight to Nusa Lembongan’s north coast where Rocky Fast Boat has a private jetty along with an inviting beach bar with a swimming pool and an array of water sports available for an extra fee. Upon arrival, a buggy car (there are no cars or taxis on the island!) was waiting for us to bring us to the villa.
Introducing Villa Escape
Escape is a charming white-themed villa with a superb location mere steps away from the beautiful Sandy Beach and its namesake beach club. Featuring recycled boat timber furnishings, whimsically decorated interiors and spacious bedrooms with full-wall windows, Escape captures the essence of island living perfectly.
Bath Time in the Tropics
Another highlight at the villa were the tropically-inspired showers fed by fresh water. On the petite island of Nusa Lembongan, fresh water is a scarce resource so only the high-end villas offer freshwater in their bathrooms. And trust me – it’s an entirely different experience having a shower with fresh water rather than the desalinated ocean water you get in more humble accommodation.
Lounge Room and Alfresco Living
Opening directly to the pool, the lounge area captures the best of island living with ample space to relax and an ocean breeze that helps cool down the room. Bean bags and sun loungers dotting the poolside deck complete the villa’s furnishings, offering plenty of space to lounge about and relax after a dip in the pool.
After hours spent exploring the island each day, the three of us would jump in the pool, enjoying the refreshing water. Shaded by frangipani trees, the pool was my two-year-old son’s favourite place to play around – he also loved picking up flowers and decorating the Buddha statues set around the pool.
Villa Escape Location
Villa Escape is located on the west coast of Nusa Lembongan island, just steps away from the beach and mere minutes from a few local landmarks. Next door you’ll find the breath-taking Villa Seascape, a beachfront estate with state-of-the-art design and unparalleled sunset views. If you are travelling with a large group, you could book the two villas together to create a vast seven-bedroom estate for the whole party.
Exploring Nusa Lembongan
Nusa Lembongan is quite a minuscule islet – in fact, you could even walk around its territory in one day! Of course, the easiest way to explore the island is on the back of a motorbike. The “traffic” here is much more relaxed than on the busy streets of South Bali. Another way to move around, especially if you are travelling with a big group, is to hire a golf buggy or a local truck with a driver. Practically all restaurants on the island offer a free pick up and drop off service so getting around is easy. Though relaxing is the main item on most visitors’ agenda, there are a few local landmarks to visit as well: the Yellow Bridge that connects Nusa Lembongan with its neighbour, Nusa Ceningan; the mangrove forests; numerous beautiful beaches and of course the cool bars and restaurants framing the coastline.
Island Landmarks near Escape
A short stroll down the street from Escape brings you to Sandy Beach Club – a cool venue with scrumptious food, splendid views and a gorgeous swimming pool. Back in 2014 when I visited Nusa Lembongan for the first time, we discovered the Devil’s Tear rock formation famous for the dramatic waves crashing in, with brave Instagrammers venturing too close in their quest of getting the perfect shot. Nowadays, there are numerous signs put up warning visitors to “cross the line at your own risk” – but tourists still take their chances and cross the line to take pictures in risky conditions.
During our two-day getaway in Nusa Lembongan, we got another taste of my favourite island paradise and fell in love with the gorgeous Escape villa. Perfectly positioned and beautifully decorated, the villa exudes relaxed elegance, tranquillity and irresistible island vibes. The next time I find myself in the need of an escape, I know exactly where to go. If you’re longing for your own island escape, get in touch by filling out the form below.
