Housing beautiful antiques and surrounded by immense gardens, Villa Asli immerses you in Balinese and Indonesian culture.
The villa’s name means original or genuine in Indonesian and that’s just what this villa is: genuinely one of the best villas in Bali.
An All Time Favourite
Villa Asli is one of our favourite villas of all time. Hopefully these snapshots will capture some of its magic – check out those fishponds and bathtubs!
Exquisite Antiques
Staying in Villa Asli is an immersive experience. We loved wandering from pavilion to pavilion and discovering rare antiques and thumbing through fascinating books. The villa has been designed with exceptional taste. Every ornament, totem, and statue is either sourced from an antique dealer or custom made by a local craftsman. Even the materials are all locally sourced, from petrified wood to mother of pearl and lava stone.
We also spent a lot of time wandering through the garden. We admired the landscaping and pondered how the water features had been created and what plants the gardeners had chosen. Of course, we made sure to feed the koi fish darting around the ponds. The whole setup felt magical.
Eat, Drink, and Be Merry
One night, we had some friends over for dinner. We had a great time relaxing on the huge sofas while the chef prepared a fabulous banquet for us.
Our guests were blown away by the villa. It is very rare to see a villa with this particular style – and one that executes it with such opulence. That’s why Villa Asli really stands out and will remain a favourite.
Indonesian Heritage Meets Modern Entertainment
While it’s the art and antiques that make this villa so special, Villa Asli is by no means a museum. We felt very comfortable staying here, enjoying massages in the spa pavilion and relaxing in front of the TV in the evenings.
Five Bedrooms Built Over Lotus Ponds
Villa Asli’s five bedrooms are beyond grand. The rooms are housed in wooden joglo pavilions that are connected through walkways built over lotus ponds. Each room offers space and privacy, featuring a king-sized bed and the most beautiful ensuite bathroom. The bathtubs are absolutely stunning!
Staying in Trendy Canggu
Meandering through the gardens and marvelling at rare antiques, it was easy to forget that we were in fact staying in Bali’s buzziest district. Having all that peace and quiet while still being close to all the action felt like a luxury.
Villa Asli straddles the line between Seminyak and Canggu. The villa is just a short jaunt from the Indian Ocean – ask the villa staff to point out the quickest route to the beach.
There are so many trendy venues in the local area, the nearest being Café del Mar. This swanky beach club is just a five-minute walk from the villa – watch out for the traffic though. There’s also a great supermarket (Popular) and a fabulous spa (Glo) just down the road. Heading just a bit further out, you’ll find yourself in the hip, happening, and hectic heart of Canggu.
Villa Asli really offers the best of both worlds: easy access to all the action, with a soothing sanctuary to return to.
