Nusa Lembongan is a small island, stretching four kilometres long and three kilometres wide, located south-east of its well-known neighbour Bali. You may miss it looking on a map, however, once you set foot on its shores it will strike you with its scenic, uncrowded beaches, amicable atmosphere and breathtaking views. Here are three reasons why Nusa Lembongan is your new favourite island… but be careful otherwise you may risk staying there forever!
1. Splendid Beaches
No matter what your idea of what makes the perfect beach: white-sands with crystal clear blue water and leaning palm trees is definitely a must! Nusa Lembongan is famous for its fabulous sandy seashores. Local beaches such as popular Dream, Mushroom and Sandy all benefit from the marvellous sunsets, aqua-blue water and the beach restaurants, where you may indulge in excellent service along with the delicious food or cocktails. Several absolute beachfront villas have taken advantage of these gorgeous positions (stunning Villa Voyage on Mushroom beach for example) so choose your accommodation to suit if you want those breathtaking morning views alongside the luxury service in your villa. Choices, choices, choices!
2. Unique and Undiscovered Attractions
Don’t let the tiny size of the island fool you, there is an abundance of attractions:
Mangrove Forest Boat Exploration
The Mangrove forest in Nusa Lembongan occupies the northeast part of the island. The tour in the dugout canoe with a local guide offers the exotic experience of discovering the unique trees, which can desalinate water.
View Seaweed Farms
The organic seaweed cultivated in the underwater farms which are located around the island are widely used in both cosmetic and food industries. While exploring the island, you may observe mounds of seaweed laid out in the sun to be dried and sold to the customers. Not something you see everyday back in the city!
Beach Clubs for Drinks and Dining
Nusa Lembongan has several engaging beach clubs, with the most famous being Sandy Beach Club and Lembongan Beach Club. Here you may indulge the rustic beach-chic elegance, elegant cocktails and meals, and sensational sunsets. With views of rugged rocks and white sands, what’s not to love?
The Yellow Bridge
This impressive little attraction is a tiny bright yellow bridge that connects Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan Islands. A fast scooter ride or walking tour over the bridge that connects two miniature islands will amaze you with its splendid view and unique construction. Don’t be afraid when stepping onto the hanging structure, it is secure! Remember to let others pass as it’s a Give Way type system – and have your cameras at the ready!
3. World-Class Surfing and Snorkelling
In recent years, Nusa Lembongan has become a popular destination for surfers. A perfect escape from the hustle-and-bustle of Bali offers surfers impressive reef breaks with crystal clear water and an amazing reef underneath. The Shipwreck and Laceration breaks are ideal for intermediates and advanced surfers, while the Playground is an excellent spot for beginner levels. Limited surfboard hire is also available on the island.
Popular snorkelling areas for the locals include Mangrove Snorkelling Point, Song Lambung and Tamarind Beaches. You can hire the snorkelling equipment right on the beach, or even buy it in the shop on the harbour. Keep an eye out for local boats if you decide to do snorkelling close to the harbour, as they may scare away the fish schools!
Nusa Lembongan does not leave anyone wanting for more. The splendid beaches, the countless attractions and beach entertainment, watersports and delicious local food is beginning to attract crowds all-year round. If you are planning to discover a new place to relish for an exotic getaway, go to Nusa Lembongan!
