Bali has changed so much in recent years and nowhere is this more apparent than in the neighbourhood of Canggu. More and more people are flocking to Canggu and we wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

Staying in Canggu

We were invited to stay for two nights at Villa Da Vinci in Canggu. This 4 bedroom villa is perfect for a group of friends or a couple of families travelling together. It’s not ideal for children under 4 years because of the hazardous stairs. But if you don’t have children who are naturally inquisitive, then you can certainly stay on the ground floor with little ones.

Villa Da Vinci Layout

The villa is spread over three floors. The ground level where the pool is situated houses two bedrooms, both with en-suite bathrooms. The dining and living room as well as the kitchen are also located on the ground floor. Outside you’ll find the pool, spa and a pool table.

Upstairs you have the same layout with two bedrooms featuring en-suites. There’s also a kitchen and dining and living room. There is a massage room as well, with two massage tables – the villa’s staff can arrange spa services upon request. There is no air-conditioning on this floor in the living room and dining area. However as it’s fully enclosed, we left the bedroom doors open which do have air-con and this cooled the floor down pretty quickly.

Can you Sing?

For us, the highlight in Villa Da Vinci was definitely the Karaoke system hooked up to the big screen TV. I don’t know of another villa which has one of these. It provided hours of entertainment for Alastair as he was the only one who could actually sing! But what a cool extra to have.

Villa Da Vinci Service

The villa only offers basic services, but for those of you who like to have some privacy or simply prefer to be left alone while on holiday, this villa is a great option. The staff can assist where needed and also provide breakfast daily.

Getting Around Canggu

You also have access to a personal car and driver for the duration of your stay. The villa team will happily drop you down to explore the local beach, known as Batu Bolong or anywhere in Canggu.

We took our scooters down to the beach and to one of many of the local cafes. You can also borrow one of the two mountain bikes available at the villa to explore your surroundings. Just be careful as the traffic in Bali can take a while to get use to. Batu Bolong beach is five minutes away by car and has a great vibe with plenty to see and do. It’s certainly a different pace to Seminyak – everyone at this surfer beach is very laid back.

There are amazing coffee shops, cafes and restaurants popping up everywhere in Canggu. We stopped in at Veda Cafe and had an extremely healthy lunch. Afterwards we headed over to The Lawn restaurant for sunset drinks. This cool venue is another newbie taking off. You’ll find the place packed most nights. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant as price-wise it’s extremely good value plus they have an infinity pool to keep the kids entertained. It’s not just the kids that will love the pool, either – it was recently named one of the dreamiest pools in Bali by Vogue.

Batu Bolong Beach

These days, Batu Bolong is one of the most popular beaches in the Canggu area. There’s an interesting mix of locals, tourists and expats hanging out in the cafes, surfing the breaks or watching it all from the sidelines. There are sun-beds where you can set up for the day with umbrellas to keep you out of the sun. People selling everything from beer to massages wander the beach.

Back to Villa Da Vinci

I love the fact that there is so much to do at Villa Da Vinci. If exploring the local sites isn’t on the ‘to do’ list for the day then head back to the villa where there is something for everyone.

Take a Dip

There is nothing more relaxing then having your very own swimming pool. I’m not a fan of sharing my holiday with hundreds of other people in a hotel pool. That’s why I love the privacy of a villa where you have the space and privacy you deserve.
