Our bags are packed and we’re ready to go. This time, the Ministry of Villas team is in Bali and heading to Imperial House, a stunning villa located at the Villa Sally estate in Canggu.

The best way to describe the first impression of Imperial House is simply the word “Wow.” We arrive after sunset and as we walk down the hallway lined by fish ponds, we’re greeted by the villa’s 18-metre pool, which is lit up by dramatic torches. The overall effect impressive is to say the least. By day, the pool offers idyllic views of the surrounding rice paddies.

Silver Screen Magic

From the get-go, it’s obvious this villa has great design. From the traditional wooden Joglo lounge to the funky rattan nest chairs lining the pool, Imperial House offers the perfect blend of classic Indonesian design and sleek modern comfort.

As we explore the villa further, we discover a few OMG-inducing surprises.

We head upstairs and find ourselves in the villa’s awesome cinema room. The room has a projector, wide screen and surround sound audio system and some of the most comfortable sofas we’ve ever had the pleasure to lounge on. Needless to say, more than a few hours were spent working our way through a stack of DVDs. If you’re looking for more entertainment, there’s also an electric piano in the cinema room!

If neither a dip in the pool or an all-night movie marathon are not enough to relax you, you can also indulge in spa treatments without even leaving the villa. The villa has two massage beds which can be set up anywhere you like – our vote goes to the pool pavilion. Spa therapists from a reputable spa offer massages, reflexology, body scrubs and nail treatments. The villa’s staff will be more than happy to advice on the particulars and pricing.

Room to Spare

What about accommodation, you say? Imperial House has four bedrooms, with two master bedrooms located downstairs by the pool. Both rooms have king-sized beds, TVs with DVD players, iPod docks and indulgently spacious dressing areas.

And then there are the master bathrooms. Both rooms feature twin basins, rainfall showers and the final flourish – bathtubs set in a private garden.

The two guest bedrooms are housed upstairs. Both rooms have twin beds, which can be converted into doubles if needed. These rooms also have their own TV/DVDs and ensuite bathrooms, so there’s no need to fight over top billing here.

All the bedrooms have a window seat, which can be used as a single bed for extra guests. All together, the villa can sleep up to 10 guests at a time. If you’re travelling with a bigger group, the Villa Sally complex offers a total of 17 bedrooms when booking the whole estate.

Foodie Heaven

One of the things you hear previous guests mention over and over again is the food they had at Imperial House. And it’s completely justified – eating well at this villa is ridiculously easy.

In addition to the villa manager, house keepers, butlers, security guards and gardeners, the villa’s staff includes an amazing chef. Our team had a feast of Indonesian cuisine, including fried rice, chicken satay and so much more. We kept oohing and aahing over the food’s beautiful presentation and of course, the amazing taste.

So how does it work? There is a suggestion menu available at the villa, meaning you can order whatever looks good. If you want something more specific, you can discuss your cravings with the super accommodating chef. In this case, the groceries use for cooking are charged with a 20% surcharge. For more details, you can check out our handy guide which covers the grocery system and other inclusions.

Walking Distance to Food & Fun

Though dining at the villa was definitely one of the highlights of our stay, we also loved the villa’s location close to Canggu’s hotspots. Milk & Madu and Nude, two of the hippest breakfast and brunch spots in the area, are both within a five-minute walk. If you’re looking for a one-stop entertainment venue for the family, Finns Recreation Club (formerly Canggu Club) is 10 minutes away on foot.

Berawa Beach is a short five-minute drive from the villa and a favourite among surfers. You can take your pick between Finns Beach Club and Lv8 Beach Club – or maybe do a bit of beach club hopping while you’re at it! The ever-popular Seminyak is close by too: you can reach Potato Head Beach Club and Eat Street in 15 minutes by car.
