Excellent boutique Villa
Friends had recommended this wonderful Villa to us. There are only four rooms and it is very special. The lounge area and dining area are spacious, the staff caring and helpful and the food delicious. We had only booked a bed and breakfast but decided to eat dinner here too once we saw the menu. The Villa is very clean, the rooms spacious with a good-sized bathroom, and there is an outside sitting area on the roof where you can sit and watch the sunset into the sea while enjoying a drink. The Villa is close to everything in Galle Fort.

Clean, spacious, comfortable, private villa – located in a central location in the Galle Fort. The breakfast was delicious and the staff were very attentive to make sure we were comfortable throughout our stay. We look forward to coming back again in the future. A short walk away you can find peddlers street with many restaurants and cafes. @Chamath & Team: Thank you for taking care of us during our stay.

A wonderful boutique Villa
A small but very nice boutique Villa with just 4 rooms. When we arrived were welcome with mint ice pop which was so refreshing. Could not believe how nice the interior was until stepping inside. It was a very hot day so such a relief to go back to a nice place especially bedrooms with air-cond. The lounge is elegantly furnished. The rooftop terrace is pleasant to sit when it’s not too hot. Got on very well with the other two couples at the Villa and it was really enjoyable sitting on the roof top terrace for drinks and chats. The bedroom lacked power points to charge devices and had to use the Villa adaptor because the pin configuration was very unusual.
Took half board option and went for a seafood platter – squids, barramundi, white bait and king prawns with rice, chips and salad and the serving was so generous enough for 4 people. Squids were so tender and soft and the rest of the platter was very nice and good value for money. Second night had crab curry and coconut ice-cream and both were delicious. The curry came with 9 small condiments, salad, popadom and rice. It was such a feast! The two dinners at Taru Villas had to be among the best meals at Villas on our Sri Lanka trip. Breakfast – we only had western style breakfast, the scrambled eggs and mushrooms were even nicer than Ceylon Tea Trails’.
The manager and staff were all very nice, friendly and did a good job to keep guests happy. While we were having dinner a staff member went to the room to do evening service – refreshed the bathroom, replaced towels, provided more water bottles and did turn down service. We enquired about the beach and asked if the Villa provided beach towels and when we were ready to go the beach towels were already in the lounge waiting for us. One staff member was arranging flowers and I learnt a good tip from him. Chamah and staff looked after us very well, arranged for our favourite dishes with the chef. We felt so much at home!

Lovely villa and an excellent location
I wanted accommodation in the Fort and ended up being very happy with the choice of Taru Villas Lighthouse Street for its location, decor and service. Being in the middle of the Fort, I thought it was pretty quiet too. We had a light dinner in the villa and the quality was very good. Breakfast was very good as well, with only a few choices but nonetheless very tasty. I had granola with buffalo curd, banana and coconut and my husband had French toast. The bedrooms were upstairs, some with TVs, some without, depending on the category of room. My only complaint would be that the hot water tank was small and didn’t give a very hot or long shower. We would stay here again.

Beautiful colonial setting.
Peacefull, tastefully decorated and manages to make you feel as though you’re staying in someone’s beautiful house. The staff were incredibly accommodating. Rooms are spacious and immaculately presented. Breakfast was superb (although if you go for the Sri Lankan option, the fish curry might be a bit much on a hangover! Highly recommend. Ideal for couples.

Absolutely Fantastic
I would travel back to Sri Lanka just to stay here again. As part of our 16-night tour of Sri Lanka, we experienced 7 hotels and I waited until the end to review each of them. Three properties really excelled and this was one of them. The 42 Lighthouse Street Villa is stunning – beautifully and tastefully furnished, large and well appointed and the best of all would be the staff. Like many other top hotels and resorts, their staff are at the top of their game – accommodating, happy, and eager to please. We had all three rooms on the first floor for our family and the staff made the Villa feel like our private residence. On the first night we dined at a local restaurant but after experiencing the great food quality and service at breakfast we decided to order in for the second night at the Villa and our last night in Sri Lanka. We ordered in advance for what we would like that evening and the staff provided us with a fantastic meal. We truly loved our stay here at Taru and it is one of the memorable highlights of our trip. If you are staying in only one of the rooms with three other unknown couples or families then it may sometimes feel a bit different from normal as it is a real home feel and design but if you have two or more of the rooms or especially the complete Villa then you will absolutely love it. The property is also really well located in the center of the Fort. When next in Sri Lanka I would seek out Taru properties to stay at without hesitation. Well done to Chamath and his team – absolutely fantastic!!

Simple and tasty
We had a late lunch in this place, it was very simple and tasty. It seems to be a very exclusive villa restaurant with a beautiful ambiance. also, they are not focusing much on side customers unless you pre-booked. However, they are maintaining the villa very nicely definitely recommend.

Stupendous
We had 2 rooms here and 2 rooms at Rampart Street for 6 nights. I can’t express how much we enjoyed ourselves. The staff were fantastic – so polite and helpful. The ambiance is that of a turn of the 19th century residence, so is unlike the perfect brand hotels but there are all the facilities alongside the character. Rampart Street has a pool that we could all use and we could choose to eat breakfast in either. We dined in Rampart Street 3 nights, including having a feast for my 60th birthday and a huge BBQ on our last night both specially cooked for our party. I’ll be back.

Worthy of 6 stars!
From the minute you arrive you know it’s going to be great. Ruwan and his team are dedicated to making your experience special and nothing is too much trouble. Had 4 days in a place where I was made to feel at home in renovated surroundings combining the old with up-to-date amenities. The total attention to design detail is fantastic. Centrally located in the Galle Fort itself it is easy to walk everywhere. The 4 rooms are superbly appointed have comfy beds, and huge ensuites and there are also 2 rooftop terraces for guests’ use. Will definitely go back!

Exquisite stay: like a comfortable home but with superb service
Had a fantastic stay a Tanu Villa Lighthouse Street( Galle Fort) turning into some of the best hotel experiences ever! The villa is tastefully decorated with all facilities in rooms and in common spaces. The rooms are fitted with good-sized comfortable beds and spacious well well-functioning bathrooms. I especially appreciated the upstairs veranda for breakfast and the rooftop lounge-style seating area for evening sundowners. The service is impeccable and balanced, – helping with any possible question but very discreet. I highly recommend this for getting everything right during your stay in wonderful Galle Fort.

Elegant comfort with great service
We spent two nights at Taru Lighthouse Street feeling very spoilt. The superior rooms had all you could ask for in a room while the public areas were an oasis from the outside world. The team at the hotel could not do enough for us and our breakfasts were delicious and a great way to prepare for a day exploring Galle. The recommendations for dinner were spot on, we had two wonderful meals. The staff gave us hints on things to do which added to our trip. While there is no pool here the staff arranged for us to have a swim at their sister property in Galle, even going out of their way to take us on a shortcut to get there. A wonderful place to stay we will recommend without hesitation to anyone travelling to Galle.

Breath of fresh air, modern & inviting!
We arrived at a very tranquil old/new modern style Dutch Colonial house offset from the road – and offered homemade frozen fruit popsicles and ice cold hand towels. They were the perfect welcome to a very hot and humid day. Although with the wooden fans going and the high open ceilings, being inside was a relief on its own. The upmarket decor, the interesting art, and the free-flowing open-plan design of the villa were an unexpected treat behind the busy and bustling roads of Galle. Our room was refreshingly chilled by the air conditioner and offered a retreat from the stifling heat. With all mod-cons, a secure safe, and a large bathroom with a huge and very generous walk-in shower, it was hard to find fault with the bedrooms. The kind and very attentive service of our host, Malita, was the cherry on top. Only too willing to suggest some good cafes, it felt as though he was always awaiting our arrival back to the villa to share a smile and ask about our day’s activities, and he was only too willing to help. We enjoyed the last few hours of sunlight on the top viewing deck, sipping an iced G&T served by our friendly host. The breakfast was delicious, fresh watermelon juice, along with an assortment of the island’s best fruit, all variations of eggs and I had the French toast with fresh berry compote and cream. All scrumptious! I can’t fault the villa and its location, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone!

Absolute hospitality
Magnificent rooms overlooking a shrine, a temple, the Galle Fort esplanade. A charming courtyard swimming pool provided welcome relief from the heat..and some entertainment from monkeys watching from flowering trees! Best of all, a personally supervised kitchen willing to change the day’s menu to provide more choice and willing to bring in buffalo curds for breakfast on my request.
