Bingin Retreat Living
A private Balinese paradise – that’s Bingin Retreat for you. The layout makes this multi-pavilion villa feel like your very own boutique resort or perhaps a particularly chic village hidden amid the greenery. A lagoon pool stuns at the centre of the property, with bijou pavilions scattered all around it. Built from recycled teak wood, these joglo bungalows are in perfect harmony with their Balinese surroundings. They also provide the most blissful backdrop for practicing yoga in your own exclusive yoga shala that reigns over that gorgeous pool.
Living Room
Housed in a beautiful pavilion that overlooks the pool, the living areas are the perfect embodiment of Bali’s relaxed lifestyle. Thanks to the open plan layout, guests enjoy a constant connection to the lush green gardens throughout the day. In keeping with the villas sprawling stature, there are several seating areas to relax in. The main lounge area centres on an elegant built-in sofa that looks over the pool, with several chill out spots scattered throughout the pavilion. In case you need a little quiet time away from the group, each of the bedroom pavilions is also adjoined by a private veranda.
Dining Room
The dining area is simply stunning, housed beneath the vaulted ceiling of the open plan main pavilion. The dining table is nice and long and it’s surrounded by rattan benches and dining chairs. Rattan lanterns suspended from the sky-high ceiling add to the bohemian feel of the space. If you prefer, you can also enjoy your meals out on the covered veranda. Close to the main dining area is the villa’s beautifully styled guest kitchen, with a second staff kitchen discretely tucked away from the living areas.
Garden & Pool
Bingin Retreat is set amidst beautiful tropical gardens featuring lush vegetation and generous lawns that are perfect for some fun and play. At the centre of the property is a showstopping swimming pool whose freeform shape resembles that of a flower or perhaps a natural lagoon hidden in the tropics. All four corners of the pool feature generous shallow sections that are perfect for the kids to splash and play. The pool is surrounded by a sun deck dotted with deck chairs and parasols, so you’ll always have a choice between sun and shade. The pool is bookended by the living pavilion at one end and a stunning, open plan yoga shala at the other. The shala, which can host up to 24 yogis with ease, is fully stocked with yoga mats, blocks and straps.
Spa
The villa has a dedicated spa room where guests can enjoy in-villa massages and spa treatments.

Jason Rickersey –
Hello everyone. This is another review from my trip to Bali in August 2024, where I attended my first yoga retreat with Kula Retreats. On this trip, I stayed at Bingin Retreats in Uluwatu. I arrived in Denpasar on 30 July and from there, I stepped off the plane into a much warmer environment. I must say, it was a nice winter escape, seeing as I had just travelled from chilly Perth.
After taking what seemed like forever to get through immigration (mental note Jason – next time, do the visa application online so you can breeze through!). But that’s what travel is all about. You learn as you go. Plus, as a long-time yogi, I used the time in line to be present and enjoy the moment. Once I cleared customs, I got my luggage and met up with two fellow retreaters, who had been on the same flight as me. From there we met our driver and followed them to their car. Then we were whisked away to our resort.
The journey from Denpasar to Bingin Retreats was uneventful and enjoyable. I find it’s the simple things that make holidays fun. Sure, the big events and landmarks are cool. But sometimes, just sitting in a car watching the world go by is just as fun. There’s so much to enjoy in the journey. I loved watching the scooters whizz in and out of lanes. Then there’s the constant ‘beep-beep’ sound of horns, which I find oddly reassuring. The system just works. I don’t know how long the trip to the resort was. I didn’t need to. That’s the best part about being on holidays, there’s not always a strict schedule. :)
The entrance to Bingin Retreats was quite non-descript, just a large gate that you open by hand. But once you open the gate, you are in another world. You make your way down a winding path with a beautiful tree top canopy as a roof. There’s also lovely garden lights that come alive at night, which make it really special. On the night I arrived, it was raining – so much for the winter escape! But all jokes aside, it was that lovely warm rain that South-East Asia is known for. So good.
After winding your way down the path, you come to the dining area, which overlooks the resort’s pool. A stand out feature is the Buddha at the other end of the pool. Seated in the lotus position, it’s almost like the Buddha is the resort’s guardian and protector. Beyond the pool is the yoga shala, which is a beautiful space. Outside but undercover, it made yoga practise really enjoyable. You’re protected from the rain and also got to experience the wondrous sounds provided by nature, mainly the birds and the wind. This really enhanced my yoga practise.
I had a twin share room to myself, as unfortunately, my roommate didn’t make the retreat. The room was well appointed, with two single beds, as well as plenty of storage for clothes. It was also air-conditioned, which is essential in Bali. There was also a shared bathroom with an outdoor shower, which was a really nice touch. There’s something about an outdoor bathroom that just works.
The resort is decked out really well. You can go for a swim or just laze by the pool and read on the comfy sun lounges. Otherwise, there’s plenty of comfy couches to kick back on. Or you can just chill at the big dining room table and watch the world go by. My group was lucky enough to have a couple of cats swing by to say hello a few times. One even came by at meal time – big surprise! Cats always know where the good things are happening.
The food we had was great, with lots of local dishes and fresh fruit, as well as some quinoa based salads. Meals were lovingly set up by the staff, who were always a pleasure to be around. They were super friendly and humble too. They also made some great coffee freshly brewed coffee, which was a great follow up to my yoga and swimming!
From the resort, it’s only a short stroll to the main part of Uluwatu, where you’ll find a great selection of restaurants and cafes. Cashew Tree was a favourite among my fellow retreaters.
With roosters as your alarm clock and the moon as your nightlight, you’ll have a good time at Bingin Retreats. I sure did.
