Each of the airy rooms seems poised for a photoshoot, marrying local artisanal furniture with design pieces sourced from across the globe. Rather than the earthy tones of a traditional Sri Lankan estate, the colour palette is light and modern, creating the unique feel of a glam beach house in the middle of rice fields. If you are partial to beautifully curated interiors and masterfully chosen textiles, Braganza House will wow you right from the get-go. That the owner of this Sri Lankan stunner is an interior designer is evident in every small detail and each broad stroke. Braganza House fuses traditional Sri Lankan architecture with cosmopolitan influences derived from Morocco, Bali and Greece, with interior icons from Nicky Haslam to Colefax and Fowler beautifully blending with local furniture. This luminous modern villa feels like an exclusive beach house hidden amidst the jungle – a place unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before.

Living Room

The villa’s all-white entry hallway leads guests into the villa’s sunken living room. This is a beautiful airy space crowned with a high ceiling and framed by French windows looking out to the garden. The white walls, ceiling and floors allow the interiors to truly shine. Every single detail has been curated to perfection and the textiles, rattan pieces, curios and furniture all work beautifully together. At the centre of the room you will find a relaxed seating area, with a built-in sofa flanked by a rattan sofa and armchairs, all decorated with plush cushions rendered in expertly chosen textiles. There is another seating area by the window, complete with two bohemian peacock chairs. At the other end of the room, you will discover an elegant bar area. No matter how long you decide to stay at the villa, you will always find something new to delight you just in this room alone.

Dining Room

In true tropical style, the villa’s dining area is housed outside on the shaded veranda, allowing guests to dine alfresco while admiring the lush scenery. Here, a timber dining table surrounded by muted teal chairs provides sublime views looking over the pool and out to the surrounding rice paddies. Another beautiful place to dine is the shaded ambalama which sits next to the pool. This beautiful pavilion features a long dining table surrounded by benches, with an adjoining bar ready to add pizzazz to any soiree. Back indoors, the kitchen with its pink tiles and matching bobbin chairs is just as beautifully styled as you’d expect from this designer villa and well-equipped too – there’s a range oven for the foodies and Nespresso machine for the coffee lovers.

Garden

Sprawling over 550 square metres, the gardens are lush and verdant and alive with birdsong and sounds of nature. To make the tableau all the more idyllic, the estate is surrounded by palm trees and expansive paddy fields. Surrounded by tropical greenery, the villa’s turquoise lagoon pool feels like your own private oasis. The unique design of the pool mimics the feel of a private paradise beach. The poolside deck is dotted with sun beds primed for luxuriating after a refreshing dip. The shaded poolside ambalama offers even more opportunity to relax and socialise with an alfresco dining area, bar and beautifully styled seating area, all crowned with a coconut palm leaf roof and serene views of the surrounding paddies.

Braganza House features four bedrooms. All four rooms are luminously light in their décor with tropical touches and bohemian influences adding a unique flavour into each room. Three rooms come with king-sized beds and one room features two single beds. Each room is adjoined by a beautifully designed ensuite bathroom.

Braganza House is a four-bedroom villa that’s built over a single floor. The entry hallway is lined with three bedrooms. This same hallway leads to the living room which is adjoined by the kitchen and the fourth bedroom. The indoor living area extends to a generous furnished veranda which works as an alfresco living and dining room. The 550 square metre estate features a large swimming pool flanked by a poolside bar and dining area.

Villa Manager

Braganza House’s experienced and knowledgeable manager is responsible for the overall operation of the villa. The villa manager will oversee and coordinate the staff and property and assist you during your stay.

Housekeeping

Housekeepers attend the villa daily to take care of all domestic duties.

Butlers

Butlers are on hand daily to assist with serving during meal times and attend to other guest requirements throughout the day.

Chef

The villa’s skilled private chef will happily prepare anything from the Western, Asian, vegetarian and children’s suggestion menus, as well as discuss special requests and dietary requirements.

Security

It’s nice to know you have security and many villas will have full-time guards or night time security available. Additional security can also be arranged if the villa doesn’t include any in the daily rate.

Braganza House is located in Talpe in southern Sri Lanka. Surrounded by lush greenery and soothing privacy, the villa sits less than five minutes from Sri Lanka’s famous southern shoreline. This area is home to the country’s most beautiful beaches, including Talpe, Mihiripenna, Dalawella and Unawatuna. There are also some great restaurants in the local area, including beachfront venues like Kabala and Persian Kitchen. UNESCO-protected Galle Fort can be reached in a 20-minute drive and the same goes for the famous Handunugoda Tea Estate. Udawalawe National Park is about two hours away and offers a fabulous opportunity for spotting elephants in the wild.
