    “Staggeringly beautiful”

Let me first say that when it comes to hotels, I am a persnickety snob. That’s why I’m even more surprised that this place left me speechless. The bullet points: Sheer Beauty: This is one of the world’s most photogenic spots. I am no Richard Avedon, but I couldn’t seem to take a bad picture. Main Pools: Pictures of me in the pools drove my friends to fits of jealous rage. I love that. If there are sexier pools in the world, I haven’t seen them. Private Pools: The pools attached to rooms are perfect for sipping a glass of wine and watching dusk settle over the valley.

The Staff: Really splendid. Friendly without being obsequious and genuinely interested in getting to know the guests without being invasive. What I found most impressive, though, was their uncanny ability to disappear when not needed but be immediately available when their presence was called for. It gave you the sense that you were all alone in a perfect, private setting, yet, somehow, were still a guest at a full service resort. Bravo!

Bonus – The Monkeys: They came to escort us up the steps on the last day. It was a memory I’ll take with me forever. These gentle, intelligent creatures were spectacular.

One note: Parents, think long and hard about bringing young/younger children. On day two there were 2 boys splashing and screaming in the pool. Not only was it awkward for my fiancee and myself, it was truly uncomfortable for the children’s parents. The place is a haven of rest an relaxation and screaming children are jarringly incongruous.

Room Tip: we had room 14. the view was mind boggling.

    “THE most wonderful place”

We spent 3 nights of our honeymoon at Ubud Hanging Gardens. The views are incredible, the rooms are spotless and the cable car makes the hill no problem at all! We stayed in a villa at the bottom of the valley, so we overlooked the waterfall and river. All you can hear is the sound of water. The infinity pool is so luxurious and we even woke up one morning to monkeys taking a dip! You can see a couple of other villas to the left and right, but it still felt private. (The only thing that needs improving is the lift to get down to the final level…it smells damp and feels at odds with the rest of the resort.)

The only thing we wouldn’t recommend about Ubud Hanging Gardens is Ubud itself! We took the free minibus into Ubud and 2 hours later we were waiting for the first bus back to Hanging Gardens! Lots of people rave about Ubud, but we found it loud, chaotic and polluted. Having travelled round South East Asia, it has a similar feel to other towns – lots of mopeds and people asking if you want a taxi every 5 steps. For us, we much preferred spending our honeymoon on the beaches of Bali or in Hanging Gardens itself.

Room Tip: Rooms nearer the bottom have less of a view but are slightly more private

“This hotel deserves an annual pilgrimage”

Ubud Hanging Gardens is the perfect retreat from more crowded spots of Bali. For our 3D2N stay, we received a free upgrade to a Duplex Family Pool Villa, with a private infinity pool, indoor & outdoor shower/bath and a luxurious king-sized 4-poster bed. Getting to Ubud town centre is possible by the hotel’s free shuttle bus services and takes just 30 minutes. We also enjoyed the dinner at the restaurant overlooking sweeping view of the surrounding forest and a Balinese temple – pricey but worth it.

Most of all it was the location and the hospitality that swept us off our feed. In the end, we left with heavy hearts but truly satisfied that the Hanging Gardens has been our paradise in Bali.

Tip: Before reaching the town centre, try requesting for a drop-off at Nasi Ayam Kedewatan for local chicken rice. It’s a treat.

“The best place to stay in the Ubud area”

We had an amazing 2 night stay at Ubud Hanging Gardens. The views are breathtaking and the resort is so beautiful!! I wish we could’ve stayed longer! The main pools and our villa pool were absolutely incredible. Our villa was very private (number 67) and just so divine to stay in – couldn’t have asked for more. The food is delicious and the staff are so friendly and helpful. We also had a fantastic spa treatment. I recommend using the hotels mountain bikes – we did an easy cycle through the neighbouring rice paddies, not seeing a single other tourist – very peaceful and beautiful. We also walked to the temple opposite the hotel which is well worth it and offers great views of the hotel from the other side of the valley – be sure to take your camera :) This hotel really is out of this world – it is so special, romantic and magical. I highly recommend it and hope to go back one day :)

    “Amazing Service”

What a beautiful hotel! Our family stayed for 3 nights and were welcomed by the general manager on arrival. We quickly were escorted to our rooms which were next to each other, each with private pool and the exquisite views over the valley. It was late afternoon so we all decided to explore the are. We went all the way down to the river where we crossed the bamboo bridge to the jungle and walked to the temple at the top so that we could get a birds eye view of the hotel on the opposite side of the valley. It was obvious that the designer put a lot of thought into designing this stunning hotel to make the best of the location. We went back for a quick and refreshing dip into the famous two tier swimming pool and yes, it looks exactly like in all the pictures!

Dinner was at the main restaurant – we did have lunch at the riverside cafe but preferred the main restaurant for both lunch and dinner. The food was fantastic. Good portions, delicious and healthy, even our teenagers enjoyed it! Breakfast offered a variety for fruits, pastries, hot dishes, yogurts and they even had two live stations with a different soup every day and a pancake station which made thin crepes with fillings to choose from. My wife enjoyed the spa and raved not only about the massage, but also because even tough it was the first time she went to the spa, the therapists knew her name. Truly impressive at a hotel where people come and go all the time. We highly recommend this hotel. It was obvious that there were many honeymooners, but there were also people our age and our kids loved the monkeys who visited their villa early morning.

    “Wished we had stayed longer”

The resort itself is fantastic. We had a bungalow at the top with a private plunge pool. As others have said, it’s a distance from Ubud but we never had trouble getting a shuttle. We were only there three nights and between visiting Ubud and another day seeing the island, we wished we had more time to explore the resort and river area. The grounds and views are stunning. There’s a temple across the river that you can arrange to visit. On our last day, we had a couples massage where you could hear the river in the back ground. Bottom line, make sure you book enough time to just hang out and enjoy the resort.
