The villa itself feels completely at one with its natural surroundings, with playful details and an uncompromising level of comfort elevating it to meet exacting modern standards. Built in an irresistible U-shape around a central swimming pool, the villa delights with whimsical details throughout – think peacock feather patterned throw pillows, rattan elephant figurines and a pathway of Moroccan tiles ushering guests from the front door straight towards the pool.

Living Room

The living room is the first space you enter as you step through the villa’s grand double doors. The room is crowned by a sky-high ceiling and provides lovely views looking out to the pool. The space features beautiful design elements, including eclectic Moroccan tiles and beautifully vibrant textile patterns. If you can resist a dip in the nearby pool, you can stretch out and relax on one of the plush sofas or catch up on some reading or emails at the beautiful writing desk.

Dining Room

The dining pavilion is a beautiful breezy space located to the side of the swimming pool. In this tropical setting, guests get to dine alfresco while relishing beautiful views of the surrounding greenery and the paddy fields stretching out in the distance. The timber dining table can easily seat all eight guests staying in the villa. From the dining pavilion, a door leads to the indoor kitchen which is dominated by a generous island counter. The kitchen offers all the essential appliances and crockery needed for preparing nourishing meals.

Garden

The villa is built on a beautiful hilltop, with lush tropical greenery surrounding the estate on all sides. From this petite elevation, the property offers idyllic views of the surrounding rice paddies. The crowning jewel is the beautifully tiled azure blue pool which sits at the heart of the U-shaped property and stretches out towards the rice fields. The pool is surrounded by stretches of lawn and shaded terraces, allowing guests to relax in the shade or relish the rays of the midday sun. A boho chic hammock at the edge of the property offers a picture-perfect setting for leisurely naps. You will find even more lawns to run around on in the garden area closer to the villa’s entrance, with dreamy palm trees completing the tableau.

Tucked down a road lined with tea plantations and Buddhist temples, the villa provides a serene setting where you feel at one with Sri Lanka’s lush nature. The name of the villa means rice fields in Sinhalese and it’s easy to see the inspiration. From its petite elevation, the villa provides dreamy views of the surrounding paddy fields. We spent one glorious week at Kumbura in January 2024 ( postponed from 3 years due to Covid) – worth the wait. From our first contact with Cecile, to the arrival at paradise, everything was wonderful. My expectations for the villa were already high and it didn’t disappoint. The villa was stunning, rooms are beautiful and bed so comfortable. Our favourite thing to do was an early morning coffee in the most amazing surroundings and listening to monkeys, peacocks and watching that glorious morning light. The food was the best we tasted and we had breakfast every day and some lunches and even a birthday dinner party. Manjula, and all the staff were a delight and Bruno, the villa dog. Shamara, the tuk tuk driver, also made sure we got to see every beautiful beach in the area. We can’t wait to return to Sri Lanka and Kumbura. Heaven on earth

Absolutely perfected and preserved aesthetic which showcases the island’s historic style architecture in a modern / comfortable way. The owner and staff are friendly, attentive and have a good eye for the little details that will make your stay that much better. Retreat from the heat in the palatial pool whilst waiting for a delicious home cooked meal or go and explore the nearby Kurumba (patty) fields! Highly recommend!!! -Axl

    Paradise

We started our family trip to Sri Lanka at Kumbura for one week, the villa is a tropical paradise. The sound’s first thing every morning are incredible, Bruno, the villa dog, was also a firm favourite. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable and the whole villa is just the most beautiful place we have stayed. However a special mention to Manjula and the staff of Kumbura, they were so attentive and friendly – the food was outstanding and we even had a birthday cake to celebrate a special birthday during our stay. Their kindness all week was a highlight of our trip. We have been trying to get to Kumbura and Sri Lanka for 3 years and neither of them disappointed. We hope to get back again.

This property is one of the most incredible we have ever been to. We arrived during a thunderstorm and were greeted by the beautiful staff with umbrella’s and two gorgeous dogs, who kept us entertained. We were completely awestruck by the amazing house. The rooms were beautiful, beds were very comfortable and I felt really safe with mosquito nets around beds. We awoke to the sound of peacocks and were taken captive by the incredible views and position of property. Perched amidst a tropical garden in a field of rice paddies. We had the most incredible time here. The food that the cook made was outstanding. The service, the house, the pool, the gardens, the nature. Monkeys in trees. I highly recommend this place for the most unique experience. We had the best family holiday.

    Fantastic – What a Gem!

What a gem!! Kumbura Villa lived up to and exceeded our expectations (the photos do not do it justice). Our stay was wonderful from Manjula’s exquisite authentic food to the rides to the beach in the Tuk Tuk. I could not believe how close the beach was to the villa and what a beach! The children enjoyed body boarding in the waves and we all loved the pizzas from the beach bar.

There is so much to do around Galle, we visited the local temple, took a boat safari on the Koggola Lake and loved shopping at the local markets. We are still talking about the freshly squeezed passion fruit juice at breakfast along with Manjula’s pancakes and fruit. Thank you also to Cecile for being on hand to answer any questions and offering invaluable advice on where to go.

We will be back – Thank you!

Our stay in Kumbura villa was one we will never forget!

We were met by the staff with drinks and flower necklaces and then shown around. The villa is slightly in land amongst the rice fields providing a completely private and piece full stay. It’s a short drive to the beach and supermarket, but as food and cooking is all taken care of by Manjula we didn’t have to go anywhere. The food was Amazing (the fried onions especially), would highly recommend requesting rice and curry and letting Manjula do her thing!

Having Manjula and Lakshman around was an absolute pleasure, they are so friendly and take such good care of you but doesn’t feel intrusive. The pool is definitely a highlight, with loungers and a covered seating area for those afternoon naps. Massages are available on requests, if your not already relaxed enough. Everything was spotless and has an elegant beauty about it. With WiFi and a generator you have all the benefits of Sri Lanka with out any of the usual difficulties. I can highly recommend Kumbura Villa and would 100% stay again.

    Peaceful Paradise

12 days at Kumbura was perfect for our 3 generational family of 4 adults and 3 small kids. First off everything at the villa works, not a blown light bulb, dubious A/C or fan to be found; secondly the space was fantastic, great areas for eating, sitting, sunbathing and the bedrooms were large well equipped and clean, thirdly the staff were truly exceptional, We didn’t eat out at all and Manjula produced breakfast, lunch and dinner for the whole time we were there, her Sri Lankan cuisine was a a revelation. Manjula also organised transport as was needed and Chamera the tuk-tuk driver became the 4 year old’s new best friend.

Finally Cecile was fantastic, we had some requests, mainly for the kids, before we travelled and she managed to source them all. It was also great having access to Jack from Eden Villas, he was instrumental in retrieving a bag that Air Lanka had managed to leave in London. All in all hard to beat, maybe not if you want night life every night but otherwise perfect.

Beautiful Villa – A Must Visit!

What a place! Kumbura Villa was everything we wished for, a beautiful villa, tastefully decorated, with amazing jungle & paddy views and a fabulous pool. There was a delicious breakfast every day and we were so warmly welcomed by Mangela and Laksman.

We have never rented a fully serviced villa before, only hotels, and here you have the best of both worlds, and it never felt intrusive in any way. The kids absolutely loved it, and even the local Tuc Tuc driver became more of a friend and was so accommodating with all our transport needs to Galle, the local shops, beaches and restaurants. The food was delicious and it was so good to be able to have it made for us in the evening when we did not want to go out.

The villa is really well maintained, in perfect condition and the pool really is amazing, and we would highly recommend anyone or any family to stay there.

Our amazing stay in Kumbura villa

What an incredible place this is! We cannot recommend Kumbura Villa enough. We have travelled the world and we stay in top 5 star hotels often, yet we can honestly say that this has been our best holiday ever. The attention to detail is obvious from the moment you approach the house. From the gardens to the pool, from the grand entrance to the bedrooms, from the dining terrace across the pool, through the pillars, to the outside lounge ….

Everything flows beautifully. This is an amazing place to stay. Truly 5 star. We came with our four kids, ranging from 8 to 23 years old. Kumbura villa was the perfect retreat for all ages! The young kids loved watching the various wildlife and playing in the infinity pool. While our big boys enjoyed the view and the ambience, whilst still being able to hop into a tuktuk to surf nearby. Perfect for the whole family! All this before I mention THE STAFF! They are what make Kumbura Villa very special. We were welcomed with open arms and open smiles from the moment we arrived. We felt like family. We will honestly miss their happy smiles every morning. We ate the best food in Sri Lanka whilst staying in the villa.. thanks to the gorgeous Mangela. Please don’t go without having her curry’s, noodles and hoppers! If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Sri Lanka.. look no further. You will not find better than Kumbura Villa… just please don’t book when we want to go back!! Thank you to Cecile and her family and to Mangela and all the staff for sharing their home with us. Spectacular Villa near Galle

We loved our stay at the Kumbura Villa. The villa is surrounded by lush green paddy fields, you can spot peacocks strutting around, and the pool is a refreshing escape. The villa is beautiful, spacious and luxurious. Each room is thoughtfully planned and very comfortable. We opted for a personal cook, who was beyond kind and the food was just amazing. She catered to our every need and was very thoughtful to each guest. She and the caretaker even bought us a cake to celebrate our wedding anniversary, which was a surprise and super kind of her.

The villa is located near a tea farm, beautiful sandy beaches, a Buddha temple, and Galle is a few minutes drive. We can’t wait to go back with our friends. We absolutely love this place!
