    “Would love to come back!!”

We came here after a week in Seminyak (beach) It was a great change, it was a unique Balinese feel and gave us the true vibe that Bali brings. The staff was beyond amazing, they were caring and always wanted to take care of our needs. I read different people reviews about the wifi, even though they are right. They need to realize they are in the forest and wifi can be difficult, it has nothing to do with the hotel. The hotel is great…

    “Luxurious!”

This hotel is normally out of our price range, but we got a deal online. The grounds are spectacular and overlook a river jungle. The hotel is located a bit outside of Ubud, but we borrowed the complimentary bikes and rode into town (not the easiest ride home though). We were assigned a butler for the day who helps with whatever we needed. The rooms were very nice and ours overlooked a pool. The food was delicious and we enjoyed eating at the restaurant for breakfast and dinner. The hotel can help arrange various activities for you, including a few hikes, rafting, and a Balinese cooking class.
If we could afford it, we would stay here again.

    “Beautiful location”

We spent five nights in an Ayung River Pool Villa and fully enjoyed it. The hotel is perfectly located on the hillside with a steep incline towards the Ayung river and surrounding rice paddies. The location is very quiet without the bustle of busy Ubud town. We used the hourly hotel shuttle bus into town whenever we wanted to go shopping or dine somewhere else.

Although the hotel is already a few years old, it is very well maintained and the grounds were well groomed and tidy – all clear signs that sustainability is high on the agenda of the hotel’s owners and management and good to see. The villa was very spacious, perhaps a bit on the dark side, but very nicely furnished with a typically balinese interior. The view from the villa’s terrace absolutely splendid and we enjoyed the full privacy of the terrace and nicley tiled private pool.

Breakfast was good, but could be improved. A fresh orange juice instead of the hybrid cordial fresh juice mix would be a good start! We had dinner at the hotel twice, which we enjoyed, a highlight was the Lumpia as a starter. Prices were high but still reasonable.

We both had a 90 minute massage which was fabulous, even my wife who is not really a massage lover really enjoyed it. Good pressure, nice location and very friendly and experienced therapists. I therefore returned for another massage on our last day.

As the private villa pool is a bit too small to really swim, we used the hotel pool quite often to get a proper workout. The pretty large pool was very nice and hardly anyone there so we were usually alone in the water.

We also took the opportunity of doing a two hour trek in the surroundings of the hotel with the hotel guide Darma, who showed us the village temple, rice paddies, Ayung river and the small cave temple and explained Balinese life and culture. Pretty hard going down and up the hill, but well worth it. Thanks Darma.

Overall, the hotel staff were very professional and friendly and were a big factor, together with the nice ambience of the villas and the hotel location, to make our stay a very enjoyable one. Highly recommended.

    “Rejuvenating 5 star experience”

We had a wonderful time at Kupu Kupu Barong. Beautiful and unique styling with fantastic view over the valley. Very nice staff, quiet, 5 star service and the food is to die for. If you are looking for a relaxing, authentic, rejuvenating stay away from the hustle and bustle, this is it.

Only let downs – staff didn’t receive our booking through third party website, quite far from the airport and ubud village, mango tree spa = beautiful setting but very busy, expensive and massages just ok. Would stay again in a heart beat!

    “Perfect honeymooners’ relaxing place!”

Overall the experience in kupukupu was amazing. The people there are very welcoming, gave us flowers and a welcome juice, the private pool villas have perfect view on the river and rice fields, the only bad thing is that the pool is not heated so it was a bit cold and also since the hotel is in the forest, u can easily find lizards, insects, frogs and hear strange sounds at night, but as long as u keep ur balcony shut u r safe :)

The romantic candle light dinner by the pool was really nice, and there are shuttle buses going to ubud centre.
Dont take the tours in ubud from the hotel, they are way cheaper outside ;)

    “Honeymooner’s Paradise”

We recently stayed at the beautiful Kupu Kupu Barong in an Ayung River Villa and it was amazing! We couldn’t have picked a better place to go on our honeymoon! The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive but not overbearing in any way. They always go out of their way to be hospitable and helpful and we can’t thank them enough! Our villa was out of this world with a four poster bed, spa bath full of rose petals and its own private plung pool overlooking the forest, rice fields and Ayung river. It’s just paradise! Additionally, the on-premise Mango tree spa is absolute bliss and although pricey, the Ayurvedic Journey treatment was totally worth it. The hotel also puts on complementary yoga classes in the stunning garden spa and it’s the ultimate experience for yogis or those that want to give yoga a try in a magical outdoor setting.

I would also recommend the birds nest candle-lit dinner for those wanting that little something extra special and romantic. The menu is fantastic and the food was prepared and presented perfectly. I cannot recommend this place enough as the perfect honeymoon destination.

    “Relax over all”

Even though Ubud is crowded, you will find in the Kupu Kupu Barong resort a relaxing atmosphere with amazing views of the jungle. The service was excellent and they provided us with everything we needed. We stayed at Villa 11 and everything was more than perfect. I totally recomend this wonderful resort to anyone who wants to disconnect.

    “Unforgettable Honeymoon”

Actually we stayed in May 2011 at the Kupu Kupu Barong, but we have not written a review. We chose Kupu Kupu Barong for our honeymoon and we are very pleased to be able to enjoy the days of our honeymoon there.

All villa’s are very nice and clean. We got a large wooden villa (2 floors) with a very large bathroom and a private swimming pool on the terrace. The breakfast and the dinner were so delicious. We enjoyed the Bali Dance (live performance) while enjoying our dinner.

The spa from Kupu Kupu Barong is very unique because it is located on top of a huge mango tree, while enjoying the breeze and the cool air of Ubud. That’s why the spa is named Mango Tree Spa.

The service was perfect. All people were so nice and very polite. There is free shuttle to center of Ubud if we want to go there. We can also ask the driver to pick us up from the center of Ubud to go back to the villa.

Kupu Kupu Barong location is very far from the crowds and we can hear the sound of the Ayung river water. Sometime we also can hear the shouts of the people who sport rafting on the Ayung river from the villa. The location is also perfect for yoga.
