The Cavern Living
The Cavern is an architectural marvel. Built inside a majestic natural cave, the villa follows the natural curves of the rockface while also offering a whole world of modern comfort. This singular villa is all about celebrating Sri Lankan nature, whether in the rugged walls of the sleekly styled living room or in the lush forest and onsite farm which envelope the property. It is hard to imagine a more luxurious place for being this close to nature.
Living Room
This is undoubtably one of the most unique and beautiful living rooms in Sri Lanka. Set within the cave, the room features natural stone walls and ceilings which feel like natural works of art. You can take in this spectacular setting while relaxing on the plush sofa and cushy armchairs, with a stunning suspended fireplace adding a warm glow. There’s also a large TV to keep you entertained – but in a place this unique and amazing, we suspect you’ll have little use for it.
Dining Room
Usually, cave dining is a rarefied experience available by reservation only – but at The Cavern, you can indulge every night of the week. The villa’s dining area is set on an elevated level inside the cave, with the natural stone beautifully arching above you and full wall windows offering magical views of the forest. The dining table can comfortably seat eight, with the villa’s superb team preparing delicious meals using produce, meat, and cheese sourced from the onsite farm.
Garden & Pool
Welcome to your own tropical wonderland. The Cavern is surrounded by 50 acres of wild tropical forest so there is endless opportunity to relax and breathe easy while getting lost in those mesmerising views. For ultimate relaxation, head to the villa’s spa pool which is filled with natural mineral spring water kept at a balmy 38-40°C. You can also enjoy a blissful yoga session on the outdoor yoga deck, followed by a cosy evening spent by the firepit. Oh, and did we mention the onsite farm where you can enjoy guided tours amid the fruit trees and vegetable fields? Don’t forget to say hello to the resident chickens and goats.

The Cavern features three bedrooms. The rooms are refined and elegant, featuring plush bedding, beautiful timber furniture, and balconies looking over the villa’s magical surroundings. All rooms are adjoined by ensuite bathrooms.

There’s also an extra single bed positioned on an elevated platform – a great setup for families looking to share a room. The ensuite bathroom features a gorgeous circular bathtub, rain shower, dual sinks, and a toilet.

The Cavern is a three-bedroom villa built into a cave. The villa features split level living and dining areas, jacuzzi, extensive outdoor areas, and three ensuite bedrooms.
The Cavern Staff
Your stay in The Cavern is made enjoyable by the professional staff. The Cavern’s staff have been professionally trained and will do their utmost to please with their warm and friendly Sri Lankan hospitality.
Villa Manager
The Cavern’s experienced and knowledgeable manager is responsible for the overall operation of the villa. The villa manager will oversee and coordinate the staff and property and assist you during your stay.
Housekeeping
You didn’t think you would be expected to clean while enjoying time off did you? All of our villas include housekeeping to tidy up the villa, arrange the laundry services, wash up and simply make sure you don’t lift a finger whilst on holiday with the family.
Butlers
Butlers are on hand everyday to assist with serving during meal times and attend to other guest requirements throughout your stay.
Chef
The villa’s skilled private chef will happily prepare anything from the Western, Asian, vegetarian and children’s suggestion menus, as well as discuss special requests and dietary requirements.
Security
It’s nice to know you have security and many villas will have full-time guards or night time security available. Additional security can also be arranged if the villa doesn’t include any in the daily rate.

The Cavern is located in Agrapatana in the Sri Lankan highlands. Surrounded by 50 acres of lush forest, the property immerses you in the wild beauty of Sri Lanka. Central Sri Lanka is known for its fragrant tea fields, exotic wildlife, and sacred temples. This is the ultimate place to truly get away from it all and reconnect with nature. The villa has its own onsite farm where guests can enjoy guided tours. If you do feel the call of civilization, the city of Nuwara Eliya is about 75 minutes away.

The Cavern is uniquely built within a cave and is a 5 star experience. Manosh is a naturalist and continuously creates a beautiful environment while evolving the organic farm for sustainable living. The service was impeccable, the meals were special. The pizza oven creates the perfect pizza. The location provides a nice break from the heat of the rest of Sri Lanka. The wood heated spa was a treat. No mosquitoes there! BYOB as there is no liquor lisence.

The Caven is an amazing creation by Serendipity Retreats, a true cave retreat hidden in the heart of Sri Lanka. We arrived on a rainy day and still said “wow” the moment we stepped in. It’s exceptional.
Manoj, the resident manager and naturalist, warmly welcomed us and gave a brief introduction to the concept, the surrounding flora and fauna, and the story behind this unique property. His knowledge of nature is outstanding and adds a perfect balance to the whole experience.
The welcome lunch, a simple rice and curry, was absolutely delicious. Full credit goes to the chef; every dish was perfectly balanced, and we enjoyed every bit of it.
The property accommodates only seven people. It’s not a place for everyone, but it is perfect for anyone who loves to be close to nature, disconnect from the concrete jungle, slow down, read a book, and recharge in peace. I would recommend staying for at least two nights, as there are plenty of activities and nature experiences to enjoy.
The only downside is the road access through the tea estate, especially on rainy days. A 4WD is highly recommended, and if you coordinate with Manoj, he will guide you with the best solution.
Highly recommended for nature lovers and anyone seeking a unique and peaceful retreat.

My family and I stayed at The Cavern for two days, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The view was absolutely breathtaking without a doubt, one of the most beautiful spots on the island. But beyond the stunning surroundings, what really made our stay special was the warmth and care of the people there.
What truly moved us, though, was how they handled an unexpected situation. One of our family members fell ill during the night, and to our gratitude, Manoj the manager himself accompanied us to the hospital in the middle of the night. He stayed with us, helped manage all the hospital formalities, and made sure we were supported every step of the way. It was far beyond anything we could have expected.
Also Ramindu, whose service throughout our stay was exceptional. His kindness and attention to detail didn’t go unnoticed, and we’re so thankful for all he did to make us feel cared for. The support given by Seelan was unforgettable and Uditha for continuously checking up on us.

The Cavern is a true definition of a luxurious nature retreat. It offers a means to truly disconnect by choice, all the while providing every amenity and comfort one might need.
On one hand you can disconnect and enjoy the nature and tranquillity which envelopes the property, and on the other, you have access to almost every comfort at home including WiFi (good WiFi, not just WiFi for the sake of having WiFi), a television, speaker systems, jacuzzis etc. The Cavern truly offers the best of both worlds and a “home away from home” as the team says.
As for the team, Mano and the entire team at The Cavern are doing a spectacular feat. Their dedication to make our stay special and welcoming was nothing short of amazing. From adapting to our meal requests to the efforts to arrange meals outside near the fire pit, they truly took hospitality to a whole new level.
The Cavern itself is an architectural marvel, a unique experience that blends perfectly with nature. The interior is like an image that an AI would generate, and to behold such a cozy atmosphere in reality is truly amazing. Serendipity Retreats have done something absolutely spectacular with The Cavern, and I would definitely recommend a stay here to anyone looking for a unique and extraordinary experience.

A Mountainous Cave Retreat Beyond This World in Sri Lanka
THE CAVERN by Serendip.ity Organic Farm & Produce.
We arrived at a place that felt beyond this world—nature at its finest and the source of the organic vegetables I receive weekly.
Manoj, the naturalist, exceptionally knowledgeable about the local environment, took us for a walk and explained the surrounding nature. We climbed an observation tower overlooking a small pond, braving the height to enjoy the spectacular views.
Afterward, we fully enjoyed the sauna, cold pond, jacuzzi, and sunshine. Also you can go for hiking and they offer naturalist guided tours for birdwatchers and photographers. Manoj showed us a picture of a leopard which was taken at night by a hidden camera.
Finally, I have seen the source of my weekly organic vegetables. At the moment they are constructing a restaurant with an innovative concept—guests can select vegetables from the garden and have them cooked to order.
The goats were a delight ! Their joy was infectious. Initially, we just watched each other, but as I spoke to them, they began to hop and spring around happily as they received their food.
I saw the Kadaknath chickens, striking with their entirely black plumage. The garden—lush with vegetables greener than green, crispy carrots that taste as carrots should ! The bounty included broccoli, cauliflower, red and white cabbage, leek, radish, bok choy, beetroot, kohlrabi, parsley, mint, oregano, tree-like salad greens, mulberries, little strawberries and surely many more I’ve forgotten—an ocean of healthy, chemical-free, organic food!
Also here they create their own organic fertiliser through vermicomposting.
To see the dedication of this organic farming is so impressive!

I recently stayed at The Cavern with my family, and it was undoubtedly one of our best staycations. The ambiance is truly unique, offering an immersive experience surrounded by nature in a peaceful setting. The villa, with its three spacious rooms, comfortably accommodated all eight of us. The service was exceptional, with a personal chef and butler who were both professional and attentive. The food was fantastic—prepared without preservatives and made using fresh, homegrown ingredients. The team was also very flexible, catering to our individual food preferences and offering a variety of cuisines.
A special mention goes to their naturalist, Manoj. He went above and beyond to ensure we felt at home, addressing all our needs and making sure we were comfortable throughout our time there. With his extensive knowledge of nature, he took us on a guided tour of the surroundings and their in-house farm.
