Canggu is without a doubt the most up and coming neighbourhood in Bali right now. Cool new restaurant and cute boutiques are popping up constantly, but the area still maintains a laid-back vibe where surfers rub shoulders with the locals and surf breaks blend in with cascading rice paddies.

The buzz surrounding Canggu also means wider choice of accommodation and more private villas. One of the best things about staying in a villa is that you get access to a full kitchen. This means you can prepare snacks and enjoy home cooked meals whenever you feel like it, which also helps keep your overall travel costs down. (Some Canggu villas even come staffed with a personal chef!) But where can you buy groceries in Canggu? You’re about to find out!

Pepito Market Canggu

Pepito is a well-stocked supermarket centrally located on Jalan Raya Canggu. The store offers a nice selection of local and imported goods, including fruit and veggies, dairy products, meat and fish, bakery goods and toiletries. Typical to lowkey Canggu, Pepito is not a huge hypermarket, so it’s easy to navigate and the cues aren’t huge. The store has a nice and spacious parking lot and an adjoining pharmacy. Definitely one of the best spots for shopping for groceries in Canggu.

Popular Deli

Popular Deli offers a variety of gourmet products targeted at foreign visitors. If you’re craving for some cheese, wine or fine meats, this is the place to shop. You can also pick up fruit and vegetables, dairy products and other staples. Popular has a very nice selection of baked goods – the croissants and carrot cake are yummy. There’s also a pharmacy on the premises.

Canggu Station

Canggu Station has a great location on Jalan Pantai Berawa. The store sits diagonal from Finns Recreation Club (formerly Canggu Club) and it’s near impossible to miss if you’re driving from Seminyak to Canggu. The upscale grocery store offers a yummy selection of deli products, fruit and vegetables, a cheese and meat counter, dairy products – and wine! Good place to stock up on imported goods or pick up a takeaway meal.

Mini Mart

Convenience stores in Bali don’t usually offer fresh produce, but Mini Marts in Canggu are a welcome exception to the rule. At the moment there seem to be two Mini Marts in Canggu that offer fresh fruit and veggies in addition to their basic selection of beverages, selected dairy products, snacks, cookies and toiletries. Mini Marts don’t offer a huge variety of products, but will make do in a pinch.

Next to Mini Marts, other convenience store chains in Bali include Circle K, Indomaret and Alfa Mart, which basically offer snacks, beverages and toiletries.

Health Food Shops in Canggu

Canggu has a very thriving health food scene. Basically you can’t swing a cat without hitting a restaurant serving smoothie bowls with chia seeds and all sorts of goji berry goodness on top. Thanks to these local shops selling healthy and organic groceries in Canggu, you can also prepare healthy dishes in your own private kitchen.

Alive Wholefoods Store Canggu

Alive Wholefoods is a hip little shop selling organic local produce, fine organic meats and gourmet imported goods. In other words, it’s a gourmet deli with a health-conscious Balinese twist. We love their organic smoothie packs – simply throw the baggie’s content in a blender, add some (coconut) water and you have yourself a super healthy, super delicious smoothie! Alive Wholefoods also offers dairy products and this being Canggu, a wide selection of soy, almond and rice milks. If you’re into healthy living, this is a great place to shop for groceries in Canggu.

The shop focuses on healthy food items. While Canggu Shop doesn’t offer fresh fruit and vegetables, they have high quality products like cheese, cereal, nuts, oils (including olive oil), coffee and a variety of jams. Special Mention: Samadi Sunday Market

Samadi Sunday Market is not a store but a weekend market taking place at the Samadi Bali yoga studio in Canggu. The weekly event brings together local organic farmers, artisans and of course, the Canggu yoga community. You can buy organic fruit and vegetables directly from the farmers. The market also offers organic spices, jams and other local products. After shopping around the market, you can enjoy some healthy treats at Samadi Bali’s organic café. The market is a lively event with regular live music sets, so it’s well worth visiting even if you’re not hunting for groceries in Canggu.
