Which Koh Samui Beach is Your Perfect Holiday Match?
Choosing the right beach to be based at for an epic Koh Samui holiday in Thailand can be key to providing many unforgettable memories. Even if you spend the majority of the time in your villa, there are many different amazing unique features to look out for at each Koh Samui beach.
Chaweng resort town, is the most famous Koh Samui beach, popular with youth, couples and even families alike. Chaweng beach is a splendidly vast shoreline on the east coast of the island, sought-after for its magnificent white sand and crystal clear water. However, in high season Chaweng can get very busy. So if you are young (or young at heart!) and cannot imagine your life without parties and numerous beach activities, this should definitely be considered as a spot to spend your holiday. Besides the wide range of entertainment, there is a selection of villas easily accessible to Chaweng Beach and this in turn gives way for the foodies amongst us to sample all of the delish restaurants to eat at.
The neighbour to Chaweng is enrapturing Lamai Beach. It is a more tranquil area, yet there are still many villa accommodation options nearby, as well as a multitude of dining venues and stores for shopping addicts. This area is slightly more affordable when compared to its neighbour, however, a lot of the area currently under development and rejuvenation projects – so maybe this will be the top spot in a few years to come! Lamai is a beautiful beach lined with palm trees and less crowded than main areas of Chaweng, so essentially a better suited place for families with children or elderly people who want to have the majority of facilities close to their accommodation. Water sports and other beach activities aplenty are also available on Lamai Beach.
Sought-after Bophut Beach is situated in the north of Samui, and is a perfect place for diving and snorkelling. This is the home of the glorious Big Buddha – and has one of the most remarkable landscapes on Koh Samui island. Single-day trips to the nearby Ang Thong Marine Park and Koh Tao Islands premium dive spots are carried out from here. Bophut Beach is excellent for holiday-makers searching for the right mix of cool-and-chic villas with plenty of active options to choose from each day, but in a more tranquil setting.
The lovely Maenam Beach is the first choice for backpackers or those travelling on a budget. The shoreline is dotted with affordable lower-end bungalows allowing visitors the unique possibility to stay right on the beach – however, we would recommend getting some friends together and pooling funds in order to grab some of the impressive high-end villas instead! For not much more once you have a large enough group, Maenam Beach has a multitude of breathtaking villas set back atop the hills giving a secluded and exclusive feeling. The legendary Celadon Villa is a prime example of a luxury property situated in this area with its absolutely stunning view of the Gulf of Thailand.
Lipa Noi Beach
Lipa Noi Beach is probably the best spot to watch the mesmerising sunsets from Koh Samui. Lipa Noi doesn’t have the diversity of activities and entertainment on hand, but instead it allows for exploring the coconut plantations at your leisure. This place is popular among regular visitors due to its closeness to ferries, as well as the white sandy beach with shallow water provides excellent conditions for families travelling with kids. Lipa Noi is also popular among elderly people due to its tranquil and secluded ambience for your holiday. That being said, there is still a superb range of villas and residences available, and many outstanding dining venues can be found there.
Koh Samui boasts numerous remarkable beaches suited for every taste. Choose the one which best meets your needs, and there can be little doubt that you will have a dream holiday to remember!
