When you’re invited to spend a weekend in Bali at a place called Villa OMG, two things will inevitably happen. First, you obviously say yes! Second, your curiosity will be immensely piqued. Labelling a villa in Bali with that particular acronym seems like a bold move to say the least. This is, after all, the Island of the Gods – a tropical paradise boasting stunning beaches, lush rainforests and countless villas where the sheer beauty will leave you gasping for breath. So what could this particular villa possibly have that could justify such a superlative name? It just so turns out: plenty!
OMG by name OMG by nature
As soon as we enter the property grounds, tucked into a deliciously under-the-radar nook of Nusa Dua, an area home to the most lavish Bali beach resorts, we find ourselves gasping those very letters: a big fat O – M – G. First, there is the pool: an immense stretch of tranquil blue water with a dainty frangipani tree swooning over it. And beyond the pool, there is another big O as the Indian Ocean stretches out as far as the eye can see in sweeping 180-degree vistas. Without a doubt, this is one of the most beautiful infinity pools in Bali and the exclusive clifftop views are something that even the best hotels in the world would envy.
Swim, eat, drink, repeat
The next morning I sneak out of bed at 6 am and tiptoe out on to the balcony to witness one of the most beautiful sunrises I have ever seen. For a moment, there’s no one else in the world – it’s just me and the ocean and a lone fisherman wading in the waters below. Most of our blissful weekend at Villa OMG is spent in and around the pool. Mornings start with a breakfast in the oceanfront pavilion, and after spending much of the day doing laps around the pool and gazing out into the ocean, it’s time for lunch. There’s something devilishly decadent about wolfing down a club sandwich with a side of french-fries and a drink with your toes dipped into your own private pool.
A deserted beach just for us
Just as we’re finishing off our delicious tropical equivalent of afternoon tea provided to us – fried bananas dripping with chocolate sauce washed down with a young coconut – our butler approaches with another question: “Would you like to see the beach?”. If that’s not a rhetorical question, I don’t know what is! After making our way through a locked gate and down a hidden stairwell, we find ourselves on a rare breed of Bali beaches with white sands, crystal clear waters, limestone cliffs – and completely deserted expect for us. This is the stuff epic Bali vacations are made of.
All good things must come to an end
All too soon, our stint in paradise comes to an end. We take one last look at the ocean and say our goodbyes to the pool. Our final verdict? Come for the views, stay for a blissful luxury experience like none other. This is one Bali villa that needs to be seen to be believed.
