Distance makes the heart grow fonder – and months spent being stuck at home have definitely left us dreaming of Bali. Bali’s picture perfect coffee spots capture many of the things we love – and miss! – most about Bali: eye pleasing aesthetics, plenty of topical touches, innovative design, endless bohemian appeal and delicious flavours – it’s all here.

Here are a few of our favourite spots for grabbing a coffee on the Island of the Gods – ones we’re making a beeline for once borders open for international travel again.

Drawing inspiration from the Danish capital, Copenhagen Canggu marries Scandinavian cool with lush tropical details that are quintessentially Balinese. – and the results are quite simply irresistible. From the boho chic exterior to the light and chic interiors, this Canggu staple is just waiting to be photographed.

And then there’s the coffee and the sweet treats that go with it! The latte art is of course on point and this being Bali’s own piece of Denmark, divine cinnamon buns are of course on the menu. Another must try are the beautifully rustic sourdough buns – the perfect pair to your morning coffee.

How I Met Coffee

How I Met Coffee Cafe | Seminyak

We just have to give a shoutout to this hidden gem tucked amidst some of the best villas in Semintak. How I Met Coffee sits in a laneway just behind Seminyak’s famed Eat Street, walking distance from some of our favourite villas in the area – Chimera Villas, Hevea Villas and Villa Shambala to name but a few.

Besides its quirky name, How I Met Coffee charms with its Instagrammable exterior and light and modern décor – and of course, the baristas brew a mean cup of coffee. Flat white for the win!

Baked.Bali

Baked Bali Cafe | Canggu
Baked Bali Cafe | Canggu

This cooler-than-cool, all-dressed-in-white café more than matches its in-vogue surroundings in the trendy surf hub of Berawa. Their to-die-for sourdough bread might have been Baked’s claim to fame, but there is more to this Canggu charmer than yummy bread and Instagrammable interiors.

Besides serving perfect lattes from Expat Roasters, the venue also impresses with its sustainable ethos: Baked.Bali is committed to minimising surplus bread (they’ve even created a sourdough soft serve in collaboration with Will Goldfarb of Room 4 Dessert fame!) and all deliveries are made using 100% electric bikes.

Coffee Cartel Bali

Coffee Cartel is one of the most famous Instagram ready cafes in Bali – and for good reason. Relying on their unique shade of pink, the café offers endless photo ops both on and off the plate. The interiors offer a carefully curated mix of sweet pink and clean cut monochrome, while their immaculately brewed lattes and cappuccinos are perfectly paired with substantial mains – though we are more partial to their mouthwatering dessert menu.

Coffee Cartel also deserves a special shoutout for contributing to Project Nasi, a great initiative giving back to local communities in Bali affected by the pandemic.

This cute little spot on the buzzing Jalan Padang Linjong in Canggu opened its doors back in early 2020 – and then Covid hit. Like a lot of venues did during the uncertain times at the beginning of the pandemic, the café closed its doors for a hot minute, but are now back at it, serving beautifully crafted lattes and fresh fare for breakfast and lunch. The photo above displays just some of the boho chic interior details at this picture perfect café located on one of Canggu’s hottest strips.

Oh my – this pretty as can be coffee shop will literally make you swoon. Located on the chic Jalan Petitenget in Seminyak, Mannaka.Bali is petite in size and relies on minimalist white design in its aesthetics. With tropical plants and spiky cacti adding subtle pops of colour, the end result feels incredibly zen – and endlessly photogenic.

On the menu side of things, Mannaka focuses on coffee and matcha based drinks – all beautifully presented of course and perfectly complementing that dreamy decor.

In Bali, no one does bohemian vibes quite like Ubud. Depending on who you ask, the area is either the island’s spiritual capital – or its hippie Mecca. Either way, Yellow Flower Café seems to perfectly capture the area’s chill essence with its bohemian décor and fresh, Instagram-ready menu items. Balinese parasols and beautiful rattan furniture create a cosy setting that exudes hippie chic vibes.
