Finding the perfect villa in Seminyak is like walking a tight rope. On the one hand, you want to be close to the action, but on the other, you don’t want to spend your time in Bali sleeping with earplugs on. Chimera Villas offers an amazing location – and some of the most beautiful design we’ve seen in any villa in Seminyak.
Hidden between all the great restaurants and trendy shops of this hip neighbourhood, there are still some narrow lanes and secret passageways that are just begging to be explored. One such path lead us to Chimera Villas, where we’ve been invited to stay for the night.
A World Traveller’s Dream
We’re staying in Villa Tiga, a three-bedroom villa with cool modern architecture and a whole lot of worldly charm. Chimera Villas also includes two two-bedroom villas, Villa Orange and Villa Green. Each of the villas can be booked as a private estate, but if you’re planning a trip with the extended family, the whole estate can also be rented as a seven-bedroom option.
Now, back to Villa Tiga. First, we need to talk about the pool. It’s so big, it kind of feels like having your own private beach club. A huge bonus for those travelling with kids – a pool net is available free of charge.
And then there are the beautiful details that make this villa really feel like a home away from home.
The sofas are piled high with pillows in Javanese batik and the pool is shaded by Balinese umbrellas. There are shelves bursting with books and palm trees throwing their shadows across the cool tiled floors. There are Chinese knots on the walls, lined by black and white photographs depicting life across the Indonesian archipelago.
Overall, Chimera Villas has the look and feel of a life well-travelled. It has the kind of energy that inspires you to live life to the fullest and never stop exploring.
An Oasis of Calm in Seminyak
Though we’re just minutes from some of the best restaurants and clubs in Seminyak, the villa feels utterly peaceful and serene. Instead of bustling crowds and thumping music, you can hear cooing doves and the trickling sounds of water.
On the villa’s second-floor balcony, I find a dreamy canopy bed that has my name written all over it. I grab my laptop and set up shop for the afternoon – not a bad spot for catching up on some admin, wouldn’t you say?
Location, Location, Location
At closer inspection, the charms of Seminyak are even closer than I originally thought. As it turns out, there’s a hidden gate tucked into the garden that leads to a secret pathway. This path takes you right to Ku De Ta, one of the best beach clubs in Seminyak. Talk about access all areas!
As the sun sets, we head out to see what’s new and happening in Seminyak. Turns out a lot. We have dinner at Zibiru, an unbelievably cute Italian restaurant just around the corner from Chimera Villas. Three nights a week, the restaurant hosts live jazz bands in candlelight.
After finishing dinner, we return to the villa, where a crisp cotton robe has been beautifully laid out on my bed, flanked by in-house toiletries (which smell amazing!) It’s these kinds of thoughtful touches that make a villa stay feel truly special – and really, is there anything that makes you feel more like being on holiday than wearing one of those crisp white robes?
A Perfect Bali Morning
Before even sitting down at the breakfast table the next morning, a little bird had already told me that Chimera Villas serves a mean breakfast and as you can see, that bird wasn’t kidding. A bacon-and-cheese omelette, croissants with four different jams, fresh fruit, plunger coffee… Yum.
And before you ask, yes, this lavish spread is included in the villa price. For an additional fee, lunch and dinner at the villa can also be arranged – just make sure to order your meals one day in advance.
All too soon, it’s time to check out. Ever the bookworm, I let my fingers drift across the bookshelf one last time. I randomly pick up a title – “A House in Bali.” As I turn to take one final look at Chimera Villas, all I can think is “Yes, please.”
