After exploring the western coastline of Sri Lanka, our last stop before heading north into the mountainous interior was the famous Yala National Park. And wow, do we have a villa for you… welcome to Mayur Lodge (previously Yala Lodge)!

We had an unforgettable adventure staying at Mayur Lodge and exploring the incredible wilderness of Yala National Park. We stayed two nights and found the villa to be the ideal base – a peaceful setting and strategic location allowing easy access to the park first thing in the morning.

Easy Living

Mayur Lodge is not just a place to stay; it’s a destination in itself, where you can unwind, recharge, and eat like kings and queens. We certainly did! The villa has a great energy and is very comfortable. The open plan design overlooking the pool and gardens is the perfect layout to soak in the sounds of nature.

One of the standout features at Mayur Lodge is undoubtedly the exceptional culinary experience. The villa’s skilled chef prepared delicious three-course meals and even packed a picnic for us to take on safari. Imagine savouring the finest flavours of Sri Lankan cuisine, prepared with passion and precision – it really adds to the safari experience!

The Famous National Park

Sri Lanka’s most famous wild life park, Yala National Park is well worth a visit. The park is best known for its variety of wildlife and is important conservation of elephants, leopards and aquatic birds. We organised our guide with the villa after arriving which I highly recommend. The guide and driver worked well together – they were both brilliant and provided a insight that only comes with experience and expertise.

Whether you’re an avid nature enthusiast or a wildlife photographer, Yala National Park promises an unforgettable experience. We counted over 50 different animals, although we were not lucky enough to see a leopard in the wild. Fortunately we had a stunning photograph of one back in our villa ;)

Once again, we did our best to capture the magic of Mayur Lodge and our Yala National Park safari adventure with videos on Instagram and TikTok :)

Mayur Lodge Location

Mayur Lodge is nestled in a small Sri Lankan village just 30 minutes from the main entrance to Yala National Park. The villa offers a serene escape surrounded by rural country life and some of the most diverse wildlife on the island, offering the perfect setting for truly getting away from it all. It’s also a mere 30-minute drive to Bundala National Park. A drive along the coastline will bring you to some of the most beautiful beaches in the country.
