Situated towards the south of Samui Airport on the southernmost coast of Koh Samui, Laem Sor is an ideal base to soak the serenity and beauty of the area.

There are plenty of companies that carry out transfers from Phuket to Samui. The trip consists of terrestrial and marine transfers and ranges from six to seven hours. Buses depart from the central bus station in Phuket and bring travellers to Koh Phangan pier where passengers make a transfer for the modern and fast catamaran, which brings visitors to Nathon Pier located on the north-western coast of Koh Samui. Usually, there are two daily transfers for Koh Samui, but the timing can range due to the travel operator.

Although it is possible to get to Laem Sor, Koh Samui over land or water, the best way is to fly:

It takes around 1 hour to reach Laem Sor from Samui Airport depending on traffic. If you are travelling by ferry from Phuket, the trip from Nathon Pier will take around 30 minutes. Ministry of Villas can arrange a chauffeur to greet you upon arrival and escort you to your villa.

Alternatively, there is a taxi desk at the arrival level which arranges one-way fares at a fixed-price. If you opt not to use the taxi desk, there are numerous taxi drivers waiting outside the arrival terminal so you can negotiate the price with them. Even though there is a big sign “Meter-Taxi” on the roof of taxis, local drivers rarely use them, so it is recommended to discuss the price beforehand. You can opt one of the transfer options – a shared mini van with other travellers or a private taxi. A shared taxi is essentially cheaper but usually requires at least five passengers to depart.

There are several options, so we’ve ranked them according to our recommendations for first-time travellers:

Ministry of Villas can arrange a private car and chauffeur for you. Depending on which villa you are staying in, the cost for the private car and chauffeur can vary, so it’s recommended to contact our Ministry of Villas team to get the complete information about the private transfers.

It might be challenging to find a taxi at Laem Sor as the village is rather secluded and remote. However, you can always request a pick-up by phone or ask your villa manager to arrange a taxi for you.

Laem Sor is a tiny area, and if you are not planning to explore further afield, the scooter is not necessary as everything can be reached within a short walk from your villa property. Though, if you decided to rent a motorbike take into account that you must always have an international drivers license on your person, otherwise, the local police can issue you a ticket with a summons to appear in court. Always opt bikes with insurance, and, of course, make sure you wear a helmet.

Car travel is a convenient way to move around the area, although not necessary if you are not going to explore the rest of the island. If you decided to travel further afield select a 4×4 wheel drive car, as Samui’s landscape is rather hilly, and it can be challenging to ride up the cliff on a small economy-type vehicle. Also, take into account, that the lower rental price implies the absence of insurance and a poor condition of the vehicle so opt the international brands, if possible, when renting a car, such as Hertz, Avis and Budget Car Rentals, which are more trustworthy than the local rental shops.

There are over 5 Ministry Approved villas in Laem Sor. As Laem Sor is one of the most sought-after and exclusive beach retreats, villa prices tend to be higher than in other parts of the island. Laem Sor villas range from USD $650 per night for four-bedroom villa properties to over USD $2,100 per night for a fourteen-bedroom luxury villa.

Most of our villas have dedicated staff including butlers, chefs, nannies, 24-hour security personnel, and many other services you won’t find in a hotel. This is why we say “Spend just one night in a villa and you’ll never stay in a hotel again.”

Laem Sor dining scene will surprise you with a variety of cuisines available to choose from and splendid vistas provided by venues over to the numerous islets towering at a distance over the sea surface.

Beachfront fine-dining is always a win-win choice offering attractive menus, elaborated food and chic ambience. Serving a lavish selection of authentic local, fresh seafood and exquisite French cuisines, these venues provide an upscale dining experience at a surprisingly affordable price.

Further inland, you will find a few midrange eateries with Thai, Indian and Western dishes represented in the menu. Offering something different from the stunning sea view, these establishments, though, amaze with majestic vistas of the lush rain forests and verdant hills.

Probably, the most romantic place in Samui, Laem Sor caters to families and couples of all ages offering quiet strolls along the splendid shoreline.

If you decided to watch the renowned Samui’s sunset, you would be rewarded with the mesmerising view of the sun setting behind the ghostly islets rising above the distance casting incredible reflexions on the water.

A few bars and beach clubs scattered along the village invite you to quench thirst with a cold beer or exotic cocktail and relish in the impeccable service and sophisticated ambience. Chilled out, relaxed and secluded paradisal retreat, Laem Sor provides a laidback nightlife scene ideal to enjoy each other’s company away from the frantic eastern locations.

Laem Sor hosts a few mini marts set along the main road, where you can buy some groceries, beverages and toiletries. Clustered in the centre of the village, you can spot a couple of street stalls selling souvenirs and Thai mementoes.

The village houses a few tailors, where you can bring your design or an item you want to be made, and they will copy it within a few days.

For a more serious shopping, head to the administrative capital of Samui – Nathon – which is only 30 minuted drive from the Laem Sor, or infamous Lamai boasting endless shopping opportunities.

Laem Sor serves relax-on-the-beach type of retreat. Featured with incredibly soft and white sand beach, lacking people, Laem Sor seduces to lay around soaking the sun, or shelter in the shade of the tall coconut trees with a fascinating book in your hand.

Sports enthusiast can rent a kayak or SUP (or simply ask villa stuff to prepare it for you), and explore the crystal clear coastal waters in tandem with your partner. During low tidal summer months, you might need to walk 100 m away from the beach to get to the coral reef.

Besides the beach relaxation, Laem Sor attracts visitors to witness one of the major Samui’s sanctuaries – Laem Sor Chedi. A famous landmark sits at the southernmost tip of the island at the rocky water edge drawing people who are interested in studying Thai history and culture.
