The western coast of Phuket is nothing short of stunning. Hugging the Andaman Sea, the shoreline is a mix of rugged cliffs, sandy crescent beaches and exclusive mansions built high up into the lush hillside. Today, we’re lucky enough to be checking into one of these luxury abodes.
Villa Lomchoy is located within the Samsara Estate in Kamala. This private enclave of eight luxury villas is routinely described as one of the most exclusive and luxurious properties in Asia. As soon as you drive through Samsara’s gated entrance, you begin to see why.
Welcome to Paradise
Villa Lomchoy welcomes you in with a bang. The entrance is located at the highest level of the villa, offering sweeping views of the living room and the Andaman Sea as soon as you walk through the door. This is a grand introduction into Villa Lomchoy’s modern-meets-traditional-Thai-design which is consistent throughout the villa.
From the get-go, it’s clear that Villa Lomchoy is tailor-made for relaxing in style. The villa may be part of a larger complex, but as soon as you step inside, it feels like the rest of the world just melts away. Suddenly you and your crew are the only people left in the world, with nothing but the boundless sea stretching out before you.
This villa is all about relishing the peace and quiet, enjoying the beautiful views and impeccable furnishings… and simply getting lost in a daze of world-class luxury.
After we’re done sipping (and photographing!) our beautiful welcome drinks, it’s time to explore the villa. Villa Lomchoy is built over two floors. The clever design means both floors and indeed, all rooms offer sweeping views of the sea, so no one has to get stuck with the “bad” room.
The living and dining rooms are housed on the upper floor and connect fluidly to the generous poolside deck. We spend an afternoon huddled up in the downstairs TV room, where a daybed piled high with jewel tone pillows offers the perfect escape from the midday sun. The TV room also has a cute nest chair where you could just snuggle up for hours on end and simply forget about the world.
But it’s not just about the design – the service at Villa Lomchoy is five-star all the way. Villa Lomchoy’s chef makes some of the best Thai food we have ever tasted. And it doesn’t exactly hurt that the dining table is located beside a full-wall window with direct views of the pool and the ocean beyond. Or then again, you might prefer to dine out by the pool instead.
Stay Just One Night in a Villa…
Villa Lomchoy has four bedrooms all located on the same floor, so the whole group can stay close together. The master bedroom is a thing of beauty with a huge double bed and an ocean-view Jacuzzi carved into the private balcony. But really, there are no sloppy seconds here, as all four bedrooms are beautifully furnished and feature full-wall windows overlooking the Andaman Sea. You’d be hard to find a more beautiful suite in any five-star hotel.
And that’s the thing. Villa Lomchoy encapsulates just what a villa offers over a hotel. At this villa, you have four luxury suites all to yourself… plus ample living areas, a private pool, dedicated staff and of course, all the privacy you need. This is exactly why we really and truly believe that staying just one night in a villa means you’ll never stay in a hotel again.
Night Life & Sunsets
Nestled within the Samsara Estate, Villa Lomchoy sits on a majestic headland overlooking the Andaman Sea. The location feels oh-so-elevated from everyday hustle and bustle, but when you want to explore your surroundings, both Patong and Kamala are just a 15-minute car ride away.
On a sunny Saturday, Villa Lomchoy’s staff helps us arrange a bright yellow tuk-tuk to bring us to Patong. This is a one stop destination for sampling some street food, doing a little shopping and of course, marvelling at the insane party scene. Checking out Patong is almost mandatory when visiting Phuket, but I must admit I give a little sigh of relief as we head back to our peaceful hilltop villa.
Though Patong and Kamala are both close by and arranging transport is easy as pie, you might find little reason to venture far from the villa at all. Villa Lomchoy offers front row seats to the best show in town. If you ask me, there’s no better way to spend an evening in Phuket than grabbing a seat by your own private pool and watching as the setting sun paints the sky a flaming shade of pink, red and gold.
