There’s something about Morocco – namely, stunning design and incredibly inspiring interiors! Here are our favourite ideas for adding some Moroccan flavour into your interiors.

Mix and Match

Adding vibrant prints and interesting textures to your décor is a great way to add a touch of Moroccan charm to your home. We love plush pillows piled on a sofa and textured carpets thrown on the floor – and yes, you can incorporate all of these prints in the same room! When it comes to Moroccan décor, more is most definitely more. For a more minimalist take on the look, try mixing and matching more muted white-on-white textures a la Villa Akhdar 3.

Play Around with Vibrant Tiles

One of the most recognisable features of Moroccan décor are intricate tiles, whether they’re used on the floor or on your walls – or, if you’re actually in Morocco, you’d likely see these times adorning an incredible riad. The tiles can be lively and vibrant – or go for a more subdued look with tiles in striking monochrome shades. Rather that redoing your whole living room floor, an accessible way to try out the trend is to use Moroccan style tiles in your kitchen or bathroom.

Create a Plush Seating Area

Grab a cuppa and curl up on the sofa – we dare you to resist these plush-as-can-be Moroccan lounge areas! A large, sectional sofa piled high with vibrant pillows is the perfect way to recreate that Moroccan feel at home. For a more subdued look, try a solid coloured sofa with a few pillows adding that Moroccan texture. If you want to go all in, opt for bright print-on-print look a la Villa Domoliv. Of course, you could also simply add a classic Moroccan pouf to your existing seating area!

Add a 50 Shades of Blue

A lot of Moroccan décor relies on earthy tones. Another hue to consider is a rich shade of blue as a subtle and stylish nod the fabled “ blue city“ of Chefchaouen. Go subtle with a few curated touches of cobalt blue or go all out by painting the whole room (or a single statement wall) blue!

Set the Mood with Lighting and Lanterns

Lanterns and artful light fixtures are a staple of Moroccan décor. They’re also one of the most accessible ways of bringing some of that Moroccan magic into your home. Opt for some artful candle holders for an easy option, or go all out on a beautifully designed statement lamp.

Create a Cacti Garden

Love the idea of houseplants but have nothing in the way of a green thumb? Cacti and succulents are the perfect way to add some low maintenance greenery into your décor, as well as bringing a hint of that Moroccan dessert air into your home. Using beautifully textured pots to house your new plants only adds to the Moroccan flavour.

Set Up a Moroccan Patio

Besides bringing the outdoors in with a curated collection of cacti, you can also introduce a touch a Marrakesh to the actual outdoors – on to your patio, to be more exact. Create the relaxed feel of a Moroccan courtyard with rattan furniture, eclectic textiles and billowy white curtains. After sundown, set the mood with artful candleholders and lanterns.
