Niseko in northern Japan is known for having the finest and most consistent powder snow on the planet. This year the Gods blessed the ski resort with fresh snowfall in December, January, February, March and April!

If you’re in Australia and planning a return trip to Niseko, or if you’re dreaming of your very first powder getaway, you’re in luck – travelling to Niseko just got a whole lot easier!

Qantas has just announced direct flights between Sydney and Sapporo for the 2019/2020 ski season. The Australian flag carrier will fly direct from Sydney (SYD) to Sapporo (CTS), with a flight time of about 11 hours. The flights are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays between December 16, 2019 – March 28, 2020. Flights from Sydney will depart at 9:30am and return at 8:05pm from Sapporo.

And why is this such big news? Well, up until now, travelling from Australia to Niseko has meant flying to Tokyo and then catching a domestic flight to Sapporo. You might even have had to connect in Singapore, Taipei or Bangkok. The travel time could be anywhere between 13 and 30 hours, depending on how lucky you got with your connecting flights. The new direct connection will take out much of the hassle, helping you reach those coveted slopes that much faster.

Sapporo Airport (officially New Chitose Airport) is the closest airport to Niseko ski resort, with the ski town located about two hours from the airport. You can make this leg of the journey in a scheduled bus or in a private taxi. Our concierge team can organise airport transfers for you, meaning there’s nothing for you to do but to sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. Once it’s time to hit the slopes, we can also arrange everything from ski rentals to snowboarding lessons and lift passes for you.

Qantas will fly direct between Sydney and Sapporo from December 16, 2019 until March 28, 2020. With such easy access to the slopes and next season’s pricing available for most chalets in Niseko, now is the perfect time to start planning your next powder getaway.
