Culture vultures and those looking for an isolated and quiet escapade would love Villa Jukung – one of Bali’s best kept secrets. It is set amongst a serene local Balinese town in Candidasa, and when the Ministry of Villas team stayed there we relished the walks we took each morning around the traditional villages, watching families start their day with daily prayers and offerings. The villa is also located right where the Ogoh Ogoh procession commences, which gave us a great opportunity to immerse ourselves in the true Balinese culture and feel like we were locals.

But the best part about this absolute beachfront property is that it is located away from the noise of tourist areas like Kuta. As you enter the iron gates, a lush tropical garden awaits you, coupled with the gentle sounds of the ocean, and you know you are in for a very relaxing holiday.

Relax to the max at Villa Jukung

Villa Jukung is part of four properties that are run by embracing husband and wife owners, Sylviane and Richard. The couple is very well-travelled and love art – all of which you see reflected in the design and décor of the place. For instance, Sylviane who spent a lot of time in Sri Lanka, has brought back antique bookshelves, authentic wooden medicine cabinets, exotic study tables and impressive dressers from there and around the neighbouring countries. These adorn each and every space on the property.

Relaxing at Villa Jukung

The pictures that you see online have difficulty capturing the true awe and impressiveness  of the villa – it is a very spacious, palatial property that has multiple areas for you to relax and enjoy some downtime. You can choose between the two pool bales, sunbeds, living room or the seating area on the bespoke man-made beach.

Sunset at Villa Jukung

The clear waters are very calm and shallow, which makes it ideal for snorkelling and swimming.

Sleep like a baby

There are four bedrooms at Villa Jukung – the master bedroom is located on the second floor of the main pavilion, there are two king size bed rooms that sit on either side of the main building, and one queen size bed room that sits behind next to the kitchen. All of them come with a fully-equpped ensuite bathroom.

The view from the master bedroom was the icing on the cake of this extravagant estate – the terrace looked out to the ocean and the bathroom had a full length glass window that sat next to the tub. Evenings were spent enjoying a glass of bubbles while soaking in the bath and looking out into the azure blue waters. Going to bed has never been easier, as the waves lull you straight to sleep.

Devour some fine food

The well-trained chefs at the property are very skilled and we had such delectable food during our stay. The prawns were fresh and delicious, and the Beef Cordon Bleu was also mouth-watering.

Breakfast at Villa Jukung

You can even request to have a formal dinner laid out by the pool side while watching the absolutely stunning sunsets.

In villa services

The wi-fi at the villa was sufficient but keep the number of devices connected at a go to a minimum – go outside and enjoy instead!

The villa security is second-to-none and we were very thankful that they are constantly cheery even at 1am welcoming us when we arrived late from our flight.

Should you want to indulge in some shopping or sightseeing, speak to the villa manager who can arrange for a car and driver for your use.
