A short drive from the historic Galle Fort, perched on the edge of the turquoise ocean on Sri Lanka’s southern coastline sits the magnificent South Point Ocean. This massive villa offers the perfect taste of what the area has to offer: a golden-white beach that stretches to the horizon, emerald green palm trees swaying in the breeze and authentic Sri Lankan charm captured in the friendly smiles of local fishermen and their wives waiting for their husbands to return home with the catch of the day.
Arriving at South Point Ocean
Lulled by the long car ride, my two-year-old son was sleeping when we arrived at the villa. Like mind readers, the smiling staff kept their voices lowered until I got to our huge sea-view room and was able to put my son down in the baby cot that had been set up for us. That’s when I first started falling head over heels for the South Point Ocean staff.
Later on, this thoughtful welcome was followed by presents for my son, incredible attention to detail and to his (and mum’s!) needs, tons of smiles, high-fives and cheers. Not only were we spoiled by the unparalleled level of service, hospitality and home-like feel, but we were also treated to incredible ocean views and private beach access.
Fabulous Sri Lankan Food
While the villa pretty much ticked all the boxes I could think of, South Point Ocean had one indisputable highlight: the chef and his terrific team of cooks! Variable, fresh and always delicious, we were treated to a fantastic selection of authentic island dishes (mostly vegetarian) seasoned with traditional sambal sauces and non-spicy dressings.
South Point Ocean for Kids
Surrounded by manicured lawns, you could easily while away an entire day soaking in the dazzling blue-tiled swimming pool, watching as the lazy waves lap to the golden stretch of sand waiting just beyond. Or, if you are a parent like me, you could build endless sandcastles in the sandy areas that hug the pool. Protected from the sun and kept cool by the fresh sea breeze, my son could easily spend hours playing here.
Besides getting the royal treatment from the staff, the villa also offers all the necessary children’s equipment: a baby cot, high chair, baby bath and pool toys are all provided, taking out some of the stress which always comes with planning a family holiday.
Bedrooms with Picture Perfect Views
The villa houses eight large bedrooms spread over three floors, each one offering magnificent ocean views. Two of the bedrooms on the villa’s top floor have two single beds each, making them perfect for friends sharing a room. The remaining six rooms come with king-sized beds draped with delicate mosquito nets. Once the sun went down, it was such a pleasure to stretch out on the high-end memory foam mattress and to get some much needed rest before a new day in paradise.
