The Nine Mirissa certainly stands out among neighbouring properties and offers some serious wow factor as soon as you arrive at the foot of the estate. Spanning a whopping nine levels, the estate resembles a huge modern day palace that invites travellers to live life to the fullest.
Checking in at The Nine Mirissa
What I truly love about private villas stay is the total absence of the tiring check in procedure. After a long flight and car ride, going through the check in process is the last thing I want to do! Instead of pulling out your passports, checking for vouchers and filling out questionnaires, you are welcomed by smiling villa staff offering ice cold coconuts and refreshing towels, allowing you to catch your breath and to take a look around at your leisure.
Sitting on the villa’s second level, the enormous living room boasts out-of-this-world ocean views. The ultra-modern design offers a whimsical contrast to the villa’s rustic Sri Lankan surroundings. Not only are you surrounded by fascinating local flora but also immersed in vibrant fauna, with actual peacocks strutting across the villa’s vast terraces and brave squirrels zooming up and down the staircase. During our three days at the villa, we could fully take in the spectacular ocean views, complemented by unexpected visits from exotic birds.
The Nine Mirissa’s Living Areas
As if one massive living area wasn’t enough, the villa boasts three separate lounge areas so everyone in our group could find their own little corner to occupy. The main living room extends to the outdoor bar with BBQ facilities and also doubles as a dining area. A staircase then leads up to the media room located right above the main lounge. For some truly epic sunset shots, head to the rooftop lounge which is also equipped with a barbecue and bar. The villa is also a perfect destination for yoga retreats as it provides a secluded yoga deck with breathtaking vistas.
State of the Art Swimming Pool
On the first level, a huge swimming pool awaits guests to dive in for a refreshing dip. Equipped with a shallow section for kids, my demanding toddler was kept happy and occupied as he spent hours splashing around the pool. A full array of floatable pool toys and volleyball equipment is also available, in case you get bored of simply tanning by the pool.
A few steps up from the pool you will find a concrete mixer taking pride of place (and a new lease on life as a grand flower pot) and deservedly so – this was the only piece of machinery used to build this architectural masterpiece of a villa. Incredible!
Up and Coming Mirissa
The Nine Mirissa is beautiful in and of itself, but the villa also enjoys a cool setting in the up and coming coastal village of Mirissa. Mirissa is known for its splendid beach which offers surf breaks and a row of sunset bars and lovely beachfront restaurants serving fresh seafood every night. The area is fast becoming a new mecca for travellers wanting to make the most of Sri Lanka. Mirissa also makes for an excellent base for exploring the island’s historical, traditional and cultural heritage.
After three magical days spent at The Nine Mirissa, it was time for us to move on and to seek new adventures, leaving behind the friendly staff, charming village life and yep, a tiny piece of my heart. Luckily, the video below will always remind us of our stay at this epic property.
