Stylish, comfortable and affordable. Walking distance to Seminyak’s best restaurants and shopping – but not noisy. Oh, and something family-friendly if you don’t mind. It might sound like a tall order, but we’ve found a great three-bedroom villa that ticks all the boxes in central Seminyak. Join us for a tour of the chic, central and yes, affordable, Villa Sophia.
Location, Location, Location
When it comes to location, Villa Sophia really deserves a gold star. The villa is tucked in a quiet lane just off Jalan Pangkung Sari, which is home to some of the best restaurants in Bali. The acclaimed Settimo Cielo and Sangsaka restaurants are both within a five-minute stroll of the villa.
For even more dining options, make the 10-minute walk over to Eat Street, where you can enjoy cuisines from across the globe and shop ‘till you drop. Walk 10 minutes in the opposite direction and you’ll arrive at Jalan Petitenget, which is lined with fine dining restaurants and Bali’s best beach clubs, including Potato Head, W Retreat and Mrs Sippy.
Having a central location is all well and good – but what about the noise level? As the villa is set away from the main street, there is a great sense of privacy – and no street noise. Floating around the pool or soaking up the sun out on the deck, it’s easy to forget you’re in the heart of Bali’s most sought-after neighbourhood.
Easy Living by the Pool
As soon as you step through Villa Sophia’s gate, you’re greeted by lush tropical trees and a beautiful turquoise pool. When you’re not busy splashing around the pool, you can chill out on the bean bags, catch some rays on the sun loungers or enjoy the shade on the cushioned sofa.
Next to the pool is the open-sided living and dining room. The decor is a stylish mix of Balinese style and modern touches. There’s an ornate lantern suspended over the wooden dining table and the white-washed room is presided over by framed movie posters.
Next to the dining area there’s a comfy sofa that’s perfect for after-swim napping – though my favourite spot was the circular daybed facing the pool!
Sweet Dreams in Seminyak
Villa Sophia’s three bedrooms have a fresh white décor. All rooms have king-sized beds and TVs, so there’s really no need to fight over top billing here.
Two of the rooms share an interconnecting door and a huge bathroom between them, making these two rooms ideal for parents travelling with kids. If you’re travelling with little ones, a baby cot and high chair are available free of charge.
The shared bathroom has a large bathtub and a separate shower. The two rooms also give access to a private massage room that’s tailor-made for some in-villa pampering.
The third bedroom is set on the other side of the living room and provides an added sense of privacy. This room also has a TV and an ensuite bathroom with a sunken bathtub and shower.
Service With a Smile
As always, one of the best things about staying at this villa is the staff. Without exception, all guests at Villa Sophia have a word of praise for Made, the villa manager.
Made is acquainted with the ins and outs of the villa and knows the surroundings like the back of her hand. Nothing is too much trouble for her and by the end of your stay, she will feel like family. The villa is impeccably well-maintained and daily housekeeping is included in the rates.
Next to Made, Villa Sophia’s secret weapon is the delicious Warung Rumpi, a Ministry of Villas staff favourite. Located at the beginning of the same lane, the restaurant offers local and international dishes at a terrific value. Stroll over to the restaurant or dial their number on the local phone provided by the villa – Warung Rumpi will deliver food straight to the villa at no additional cost.
We can think of few better ways to begin the day than by enjoying breakfast by the pool, served with a million watt Balinese smile.
