Endless stretches of pure white snow, plush snowflakes dancing in the air, pink sunsets painting the all-white landscape, and silver birch trees arching their dainty frosted branches… Yes, winter in Niseko can be quite magical. We definitely felt the magic while staying at Kumirin.

Light, Grace, Elegance

Kumirin offered the perfect setup for tackling the most pressing item on our to-do list: catching up on some work! The upstairs living room has an open floor plan, and the dining area has a five-metre-long counter which extends into the dining table. We set up our laptops there on the counter and got to work.

We had heaps of space and calm music playing in the background. We would occasionally pause and look out to the forest for inspiration. It all felt very calming and peaceful. If you’re spending a little longer in Niseko, say a few weeks of skiing, this chalet would be a great space for getting some work done during your trip.

A Calm Getaway

Besides that fabulous kitchen setup, the living room also has a lovely big TV, and the room is beautifully furnished throughout. However, we felt ourselves drawn to those magical views. We would play classical music through the TV and simply get lost in the views.

And this really is what Kumirin is all about. It’s a beautiful modern bolthole nestled in the woods where you feel a wonderful sense of calm. The design is very modern and Scandinavian chic which adds to that lovely peaceful feeling.

2 Bedrooms (or 3 at a Pinch)

Technically, Kumirin is a three-bedroom chalet. There’s one bedroom with a king-sized bed (or two singles if you prefer) and one room with two sets of bunk beds. The third bedroom is a tatami room where two guests can sleep on futon mattresses.

So in a squeeze, there are three bedrooms. However, we were three people staying and found the chalet to be the perfect size for our group. We think the chalet would be great for one family, with mum and dad occupying the primary bedroom and kids sharing the bunk room. You can then use the tatami room for hanging out (which is what we did), rather than trying to squeeze in more people.

The upstairs bedroom has a small ensuite with a shower, while the bunk room downstairs has a bathroom located right next door. And what a bathroom it is! It has the most beautiful Japanese bath made from light timber and dark stone. The space was nice and quiet and felt incredibly relaxing.

Staying in Serene St Moritz

Kumirin is located in the peaceful neighbourhood of St Moritz, about five minutes from Grand Hirafu. The chalet looks out to the woods which adjoin the neighbouring golf course. This means those magical views will never be built in. Kumirin will continue to look out to those same trees and remain as beautiful as it is today.

St Moritz is serviced by the local ski shuttle which does a little loop in the neighbourhood. However, we would recommend self-driving which is what we did, as renting your own vehicle makes it so much easier to get out and about.

Kumirin has an undercover carport. It’s not an enclosed garage, but we found it really convenient to be able to drive off and pick up supplies, do some shopping, have lunch, go skiing and then just drive back into the chalet.

Yes, You Can Stay Here Too!

Our stay at Kumirin was calm, relaxing, and dare we say magical. From the luminous décor to the serene setting, this chalet is one of the most peaceful places we have ever stayed in Niseko.
