Staying somewhere new like Villa Laut, always excites me and I love getting out of the tourist spots in Bali and seeing the ‘real’ Bali. When I say this I mean when you are surrounded by rice paddies, nestled near a local village, and you can feel the rawness of what Bali once was before the villas, the tourists and hotels.

Villa Laut’s Black Sand Beach

Tabanan Is on the west coast past Canggu, past Tanah Lot, where the sand becomes dark and waves break close to shore. Palm trees sway along the beachfront and the contrasting shapes and shadows make it a magical spot to watch Bali’s famous crimson sunsets.

Villa Laut – Traditional Two Bedroom with a Twist

This is a 2-bedroom villa made from recycled items and traditional Indonesian building materials with private swimming pool, tropical garden and private deck overlooking the beach.

The villa owner has a keen eye for iconic furnishings and they’ve done a wonder job fusing different styles with a traditional Joglo frame.

Happy Anniversary at Villa Laut

I have never been one to count down the days to special occasions, instead I usually arrange something special the day before. Well, this time Alastair planned a range of wonderful surprises and surprised me with a cake, beautiful white bouquet of flowers and a bottle of French wine.

The villa staff went out of their way to make it a very special night. We kicked off the celebration with wine sitting outside watching the sunset – it was one of the truly most stunning sunsets I’ve ever seen. You can’t ask for a better backdrop with palms framing the view perfectly.

We decided to eat in as the villa has a small priced menu available with our favourites: pasta, lamb chops and grilled tuna. If you order in advance they can even arrange fresh lobster.

Villa Laut does not actually have a kitchen, instead they prepare meals in a nearby kitchen and deliver room-service style. Given there isn’t much is the way of restaurants or hotels nearby it’s a good thing they can cook.

If however you plan on staying a while, never fear as there is a full-size fridge, stove, coffee machine and everything you need to prepare small meals yourself.

Explore West Bali

I recommend getting out and exploring Bali beyond the popular regions in the south and Ubud. Tabanan is still a sleepy region, but scattered along the coastline are some amazing villas like Soori Bali and Villa Palem or you can try and drive further up the coast to on your own adventure.
