Like champagne and caviar, villas and yachts are a match made in lifestyle heaven. For this reason Ministry of Villas CEO Alastair Loxton attended the third annual Kata Rocks Superyacht Rendezvous in Phuket, Thailand in December 2018.
“The main reason for my visit was to learn about the superyacht industry in Asia and explore the opportunity to offer yacht charters to our guests. I learned there is tremendous potential and Asia has many beautiful regions only accessible from the water. We hope to introduce our guests to this magnificent lifestyle and contribute to the growth of the industry.“
Kata Rocks Superyacht Rendezvous (KRSR) is an exclusive, invitation-only yachting event hosted annually at the Kata Rocks luxury villa resort on Phuket’s southwest coast. The event brings together some of the most luxurious yachts in Asia and during the four-day extravaganza guests are treated to spectacular events including elegant cocktail parties, yacht hopping and a grand closing party which marks the opening of the Kata Charter Season – cue fireworks! Besides yacht owners, the invitation-only event attracts influencers, industry heavy hitters, Kata Rocks villa owners and cosmopolitan glitterati along with luxury lifestyle and yachting media.
So what exactly qualifies as a superyacht? KRSR is open to sailing and motor yachts which measure over 24 metres in length. The yachts can be either based in or visiting Phuket, making this the perfect opportunity for owners to showcase those jaw-dropping yachts to the global yachting community as well as doing some serious networking. In 2018, over 20 yachts took part in the event, including more than a dozen fully fledged super yachts. This year’s highlights included the 34-metre MY Xanadu, 33-metre MY Nymhaea, 30-metre SY Aphrodite and the 29-metre SY Dallinghoo schooner.
Kata Rocks Super Yachts Rendezvous is organised by Infinite Luxury in collaboration with the Kata Rocks luxury villa resort which offers the perfect backdrop for this annual gathering of the most jaw-dropping super yachts in Asia. Built on a rugged rock formation by the Andaman Sea, the design of these modern white villas actually mimics the sleek shapes of a luxury yacht. In between sipping champagne and admiring the yachts, guests attending KRSR were invited to tour the resort and enjoy complimentary activities, including spa treatments, yoga lessons and cooking classes.
When it comes to location, there really is no better place for throwing this luxury yacht soirée than Phuket. As well as being home to some of the most extravagant villas in Asia, the Thai island has grown into a real hotspot of luxury yachts. A case in point: Kata Rocks Super Yachts Rendezvous coincides with the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta – the biggest and most prestigious sailing regatta in Asia. KRSR also marks the opening of the yachting season in Phuket. And what better way to start the season than by rubbing shoulders with the glitterati, surrounded by luxury real estate and the best yachts sailing the Andaman Sea?
