We all come to Niseko as it is the perfect winter playground filled with the most beautiful white powdered snow on Earth. It immediately captures the hearts of all the travellers who visit, and that feeling of awe continues when you step into the doors of the stunning Greystone.

Located in lower Hirafu, away from the hustle and bustle of the main area, Greystone is like a winter’s dream. It was a large old pension that that was converted into a private home – which is why each and every living, dining and sleeping space is so spacious, especially for Japanese standards.

The designer and owners have built this with both the winter and summer in mind. When you walk in the doors, the coat hanger is made of olden wooden skis and the décor has antique snow shoes hanging on the walls.

The kitchen, living and dining area are expansive enough to take all of your family and friends in complete comfort. In fact, there are two living rooms to choose from – you can snuggle while having the fireplace warm your bones or recede towards the back where kids can play some board games and chat excitedly about the day’s adventures on the hill.

The kitchen comes fully equipped with all the modern amenities, so during an exceptionally cold winter night you do not have to leave the home! It also boasts a wine cooler, so pour yourself a drink and hop on the high stools that look out at the Niseko forests and onto the glorious Mt. Yotei.

Winter Slumber

Greystone is a modern alpine-style home with delicate Japanese touches. The dark timber wood posts are contrasted with pale Hinoki wood in the property. As the name suggests, grey stone tiling is also prominent across the home, along with Japanese lantern lights that evoke a warm and cozy atmosphere.

The bedrooms are large and spacious and you can spend your nights (or mornings) watching the snow fall. They also have a children’s room with bunk beds which sleep up to six little rascals.

What we loved is the private Japanese Onsen in the basement where you can soak the stresses on the body and mind away.
