On the one hand, the distance makes the heart grow fonder – we know we’re not the only ones feeling our passports burning a hole in our pockets; itching to hop on a plane and jet off to new adventures.

On the flip side, months spent stuck at home (whether that means literally being stuck inside our own four walls or inside your country’s borders) can make your horizons shrink and make overseas holidays might start feeling like a distance dream… and nothing more.

So this is us taking stock – to pause, reflect and reminisce over all the adventures and experiences waiting out there once international travel kicks into gear. Here are the travel experiences we’re missing the most.

1. Breakfast in Bed… or by the Pool

Nothing makes you feel like you’re on holiday quite like waking up to a beautiful spread of all your breakfast foods served in bed. Unless it’s breakfast served by the pool. Or breakfast on the beach. Well, you get the idea.

2. Eating Our Way Through Seminyak

Discovering new restaurants and exploring new cuisines is obviously one of the best reasons to travel. Distance makes the heart go fonder and we can’t wait for the day we’ll be strolling down Seminyak’s fabled Eat Street (aka Jalan Kayu Aya) once more, stopping by all our favourite spots (hello, Red Carpet!) and checking out all the new comers.

3. Shopping at the Souks in Marrakesh

Nothing gives you a sense of a place quite like strolling through a busy market place. We’re still reminiscing about the iconic souks of Marrakesh – textiles and spices and jewelry, oh my! To satisfy some of our souk shopping cravings, we’ve put together a guide for incorporating some Moroccan influences into your décor at home.

4. Jumping into a Rock Pool in Vanuatu

You know what they say – the cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears or the sea. Our pick for nursing the after effects of the past 12 months are the stunning natural rock pools formed on the shorelines of Vanuatu. Best enjoyed from the privacy of your very own Vanuatuan villa, of course.

5. Balinese Spa Bliss

It’s safe to say that recent developments have left many of us feeling a tad tense. We can think of no better way to unwind than a pampering Balinese spa extravaganza. A soak in a flower petal bath or maybe a massage by the pool – we’re here for it.

6. Apres-Ski in Niseko

A day spent skiing followed by an evening spent in a cosy izakaya pub – sign us up! Stepping in from the cold with your cheeks kissed rosy red by the brisk mountain air, followed by a hearty bowl of ramen (or maybe a massive teppanyaki spread) and a glass (or three) of Sapporo beer… take us there!

7. Sunset Cocktails in Phuket

There’s nothing quite spending the day outdoors, exploring a whole new island and soaking up as many new experiences as you can. After all the excitement, you need to let it all sink in – and what better way to do that than by getting a group of friends together for a round of drinks at sunset? If we had our way, we’d be chilling on the terrace at Baan Paa Talee with a cold drink in hand right about now, watching as the sun sinks into the Andaman Sea. These ocean views are still some of the best we’ve ever seen!

8. Checking into a Villa

Now, we might be partial, but the thing we miss most about travelling is the excitement and giddiness of checking into your new villa. In fact, we miss the whole process: spending hours or days even choosing the perfect villa, then pouring over social media in anticipation of our trip… and then finally arriving and checking in. There’s nothing like that first impression: making your way through the villa for the very first time, admiring the décor (whether bohemian chic or pristinely white), getting to know the staff, oohing and aahing over the pool… Making this you home-from-home, anticipating all the memories about to be made. There really is nothing like it.
