One of the best reasons to back up our slogan – Stay just one night in a villa and you’ll never stay in a hotel again – are the living rooms. When you stay in a private villa, instead of cramming everyone to individual hotel rooms only to rendezvous in the lobby, you and your group have spacious, purposefully designed living areas all to yourselves. Beyond mere convenience, these villas’ living areas offer sublime comfort, some serious eye candy – and more than a few décor ideas to replicate at home.

Modern Minimalism

Some of our most iconic villas are true testament to the age old adage: less really is more. Often styled in luminous white tones, these stunning lounge rooms feature flawlessly curated furniture and design pieces that are just right. The minimal styling of the space itself also allows the stunning views – more often than not gazing beyond the clear blue ocean – to speak for themselves. We are particularly partial to the sleek, seductive sunken lounges featured in villas like Celadon and Villa Zest.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Destinations like Bali and Morocco exude a bohemian elegance that’s perfect for getting into that relaxing holiday mood. Staying in villas where the living room is like something from a bohemian day dream is bound to get you rethinking your décor back home, too. In Bali, traditional wooden architecture only adds to the bohemian feel, including in villas like Villa Zelie and Villa Shambala.

An easy way to incorporate some of these bohemian vibes into your home is by adding some beautiful exotic textiles and rattan pieces into your décor. Add a luxe twist by adding a chandelier like the one in Villa Shambala or some shimmer like the satin cushions in Villa Zelie. House plants add a tropical flair – or opt for a cactus if you prefer something low maintenance.

Industrial Chic

Exposed concrete walls, lofty high ceilings and expertly curated furniture give these living rooms a cool, collected feel that wouldn’t look a miss on the cover a glossy home décor zine. The colour palette is often muted, relying on white, black and greys, with touches of natural wood and leather juxtaposing the sleek feel of the concrete. Emulating this palette and perhaps adding a tastefully framed art print on the wall are accessible ways to add this of-the-moment industrial feel to your home – without knocking in the ceiling to add some extra height to your living room.

Caribbean Beach House

If your aesthetic leans more to the “more is more” side of things, this beautiful design approach might be more up your alley. Taking cues from the impressive beach houses of the Caribbean and the Hamptons, these villas offer light and bright living areas with tasteful touches of the tropics.

This is a great opportunity have some fun with your interiors: frame posters, postcards and other fun prints on the wall a la Villa Lulito or create arrangements from knick knacks and mementos gathered from previous travels like you see in The Cotton House. The rooms are often white to begin with, with textiles, house plants and wall art adding pops of colour.

Pops of Pop Art

Another way to add some fun colour to your decor is through actual works of art. These villas incorporate colourful art into their living rooms – Villa Como comes with a large mural painted directly on the wall, while the art-filled Villa Canggu comes with both paintings and innovative sculptures incorporated in the otherwise subdued decor. Keeping the rest of the decor more neutral allows the art to really pop – it’s also a low-maintenance way to change up the room without painting the actual walls.

Scandi Chic

If you’re looking to go more subdued, Scandinavian design sensibilities are the perfect way to go. Clean lines, uncluttered spaces and subtle touches of warm comfort (think faux furs and plush textiles) create a hygge feel no matter where you are in the world. Light tones, minimalist furniture and carefully chosen design pieces which are never too in-your-face are key to achieving this very coveted look that’s perfect for cosying up at home.
